I'm starting my coaching career....

I have signed up to be a volunteer for 16U boys in a local league. I do not have a son on the team (my daughter is 4) but something told me to sign up and see where it goes. I played soccer for 15 years growing up but it's been a while since i've played competitively. I truly have no idea what i'm doing but i'm going to do a ton of research and have plans for the practices.
Anyone in here a coach and can give any advice to a newbie?

Easiest way to make sure your team is competitive is to work on defense often. Things that are natural to you are probably not natural to them. When to step, where to be if someone steps, how do you recover if you got beat, etc.
Work on touches often, and stress passing to feet. Kids that age want to send through balls constantly.

I did the same thing about 20 years ago. I played all my life. Stepped away. Then came back and coached high school. I made a ton of mistakes with my philosophies and approach with the kids. I coached like I was Nick Saban. Over the years I mellowed out and found my way both as a coach and as an adult. Hindsight it was the best move I ever made. Coaching helped me grow as a person exponentially. Still coaching to this day. At the end of the day it’s about the relationships you build with the kids that you coach as you try to be positive influence on them.
