I'd like to read or watch a real in depth interview on this situation. He really seemed all in on Mexico until he wasn't.

The whole thing has been odd, and it has been made even worse because all of the reports have been "Sources say...". We've yet to actually hear Gonzalez be directly quoted since the possibility of him filing the one-time switch came up.

There a plenty of players in the player pool at the youth level that can play for multiple countries and have

Even your beloved England tries playing the same game grabbing dual nationals

Yep and it's a loophole FIFA needs to fix, but it makes sense so of course they won't.

It doesn't make sense to have 14-15 yos make subtle, career-defining decisions, especially in cases like this where the player clearly has ties to both countries (although he made his decisions later). Even if both countries involved hate each other in soccer

These guys' problem isn't that he had to make a decision. It's that he has a Mexican parents and a Mexican name.

To be fair to Randy, he has consistently had problems with things like this. Consistency is good, unless it's bad

Yeah, nice little PR comment about joining the US, but during this whole 1 month saga, there has been no explanation from him on why it was originally reported that he was leaning Mexico and then a week later a report stating the exact opposite came out.

Just a weird situation that still has absolutely no clarity.

A man who loves John Terry that much is going to be consistent in these matters.

If you want to pick on someone on the current Gold Cup roster, it's Saief, not Gonzalez.

What is his deal for switching? Realizes Israel won't make the World Cup so he's trying to get there via the USMNT?

There were some other issues, such as not getting called up much.

Damn straight, one of the few remaining vestiges of honor in an increasingly shameless/prideless business.

Long live Buffon.

He loves the game and still has some left to give, it's not like he wanted to leave.

I'm sure it does to a culture with soft values and no appreciation on what it means to be a real American.

Seriously, some of you need some pride.

Jesse Gonzalez, born in America, lives in America... NOT an American, though.
