Steffen
Dest-Long-Brooks-Robinson
Adams-McKennie
Reyna
Morris-Altidore-Pulisic

Of that group, 6 are playing in Champions League, 6 are 23 or under, 7 are playing in top Europe leagues (8 pending on if Dest moves), 2 World Cup veterans.

That's the most accomplished and talented XI we would ever put out in the history of the program.

If that is the way things continue to look as the next World Cup approaches, I’d like to propose a Soccer Board watch party for the first match...

I'll bite. Is he Claudio's boy, or someone with the same invented surname?

Son of Claudio Reyna (112 USMNT caps) and Danielle Egan (6 USWNT caps). Named after Dutch legend Giovanni van Bronckhorst.

I am very very excited, and I also think its too early to write off our manager after the total disaster of the Klinsman era. With this much elite talent starting to come through the American ranks, we need som rank and file guys (and let's be honest... a defense). If Klinsman has been only marginally competent, there would be a core of 26-30 year olds we could put these stars around. the problem is that generation is utterly barren save for Brooks and maybe Miazga.

But man, the young talent is really, really exciting. And what's even better, you can see how they fit together, they don't all play the same spot. A central spine of Gio - Pulisic - McKennie - Adams - Dest is so enticing.

Still need a striker, though.

I don't see how that's on Jurgen.

I flit in and out, throw inflammatory darts, keep the board honest about proper football, and yes, watch US football (and truly wish it the best).

Claudio did have a serious spell at Real Betis, as well.

Please keep me up to date how many times Ramos rolls around in the next match.

I agree with the sentiment... but Jozy will keep playing until either Sargent and Soto step up, because the other options have not panned out. Morris has his supporters, but I don't see it. Zardes is Zardes. And I like Bobby Wood's workrate, even if he's fairly unremarkable. I at least give points for his willingness to get the crap kicked out of him, which is not nothing.

Jozy's not playing due to some misguided loyalty, he's playing because no one has been unable to unseat him. Which says more about our strikers than Jozy. I wouldn't mind him being one of the few over-30 players on the WC roster (if we qualify, which we better), but if he's starting, that's on the player pool failing to step up.

Morris doesn't have any supporters for him being a striker. He's a winger.

Zardes can be adequate if the service to him improves. If we can't get the ball to him in the box then he's not much help. As the players around him get better, he becomes a more viable candidate.

Wood rarely gets off the bench in the 2.Bund.

God, there's nothing more obnoxious than the arrogance of soccer fans.

Articles calling Morris a striker (he plays both, as he started to transition from striker to wing, but our wingers are loaded so why do that:

LINK

LINK

quote:

He created chances in both roles, nearly scored twice while up front, then faced the question that's dogged him all along.

Where would he rather play? What's his best position?

“Definitely up front,” Morris said. “That's where I feel most comfortable and most dangerous. That's where I prefer to play, but [I'll play] wherever I can help the team.”

LINK

quote:

Jordan Morris’ activity is the same whether played as a striker or as a midfielder. One would expect more statistical variation in the same player from season to season than we observe in Morris, changing positions.

LINK

quote:

One of them is Seattle Sounders striker Jordan Morris. On a roster that has plenty of offensive depth, the 24-year-old Morris has had to fight for a spot and minutes at this tournament.

Don't be that guy.

Its looks like they are talking about Morris as a winger in the first link. They don't mention him in the next few paragraphs when discussing striker options.

The second link is from almost 3 years ago, before he started playing almost exclusively as a winger. He hasn't played as a striker at all this year, and only played there last year when Ruidiaz was unavailable (and after Bruin proved to be ineffective). He's easily had his best 2 seasons after switching full time to the wing.

People make this statement and somehow forget that he’s still the best in our pool. Sargent will hopefully get there but Jozy’s interplay with our midfielders is super important to our scheme.

It's because we have fans that assume younger = better.

Jozy kicks the shite out of Sargent right now.

A healthy Bacon kicks the shite out of Sargent right now.

Man, people hated Jozy when he was 20 and playing well at the 2010 World Cup. People have always dislike the guy for perceived laziness or some bullshite.
