What's the deal with NLC? When I played them in high school (2007) they were super shitty. Like, our JV team played them and it was a playoff game.
They got a good coach now.

Aww shite St. Louis is back in DIII? Well I guess we can call it now.
Yep - they beat me in the finals year ago. Beat would be the nice way to put it. We were set up in a way (though we probably wouldn't have won anyway as they were the better team)by a rival coach since we had no idea how they played and never had played against them and couldn't get any tape in the short time in between. We were told they sit back and counter a lot and didn't even have a corner kick in their semifinal game against our rival. Then they came out and pressed our possession game to pieces and took us out mentally.

Yeah they just curbstombed everyone when they were in DIII. It was such a relief when they went up to DII, since they are much bigger than a lot of other DIIIs. Shame they're back down again. We lost to them 5-0 in the quarterfinals my senior year. We lost 4-0 in the quarterfinals to them the year before. In my defense, none of the goals they scored came from my side of the field. Moral victories, right?
Where did you play? I was at UHS. Especially seeing the team now we play like the Stoke City of LA high school soccer. It's funny to see you talking about tactics, because that was rarely a thing when I was there. Maybe that's changed, but based on how I've seen the team play in the semis and finals, twice (they lost all 3 of those games, god dammit), they don't know how to pass and move and all offensive forays are based on kicking it to the wing or to the athletic guy up top and trying to run past them. It's hard to watch.

St. Louis aren't anywhere close to what they used to be. I think your senior year was the last year they had a great team. They were actually more fortunate to get moved up to DII for the few years they were there because DIII top teams were so good.
DIII is wide open this year. I'm happy my little bro is playing on varsity this year, so I've been able to follow it again

You should have come out to watch them play this year. It's amazing how well they possess the ball.

If they have a game in NOLA I'll be there. Saw them lose to Newman last year in the semis. We got outpossessed so bad it wasn't even funny. We had one guy playing up top by himself, and Newman had three in the back. They crowded the midfield and our guys looked like they had no idea how to pass and move. Any time we got the ball, especially in defense, it was just booted as far down field as possible. The one v 3 up top guy had no chance. Newman collected possession and went on the attack again. Rinse and repeat. It was hard to watch.
Honestly, we had one good player out there, and it was little Kobetz. The only problem was that coach put him out on the wing. His soccer intelligence and technique was far superior to the other UHS players, but he was so isolated he wasn't able to make an impact on the game. He should have been moved centrally, and some of the athletic kids trying to play in the middle without the requisite technique should have been put on the wing to make the lung busting runs.
Similar trend when we played Newman in the finals... twice. But you know more about that than I do, but I was there to watch it from the sidelines... twice
I have a friend who played on those Newman teams and he said he remembers the ball just sailing over his head the entire game. He's a central midfielder. The strategy was basically kick it up field to Micah and hope for the best.
ETA: Looks like UHS won their first game 7-0. Weird since the games weren't supposed to start til tomorrow according to the schedule.

he's still out on the wing, but that's the only place to put him on this team. They have quit a few talented players this year, though.

I was there. I feel bad for Houma. They were a Co-ed team. Score could have been much worse if the team gave 2 shits about the game, and didn't pull the starters with 20 minutes left

Mississippi also plays in the cold winter. A few years ago, the football coaches got together and cut several games from their season. Said soccer was getting too popular and they were losing players.
Champ games are tonight.

Their defense is pretty stout, but the middle is probably the best midfield since my sophomore year. They have the old BR capitals owner's son at the attacking mid. Great player, just gets really lazy on defense

Their defense is held down by the two brothers from Bosnia. The new midfielder is Miguel Vilas from Dunham. Haven't seen them this year but watched them play defending state champs Episcopal twice last year. Basically they got ball on defensive side and booted it up to kobetz and berg(who are both very good players). Should be an interesting turn out this year in DIII.
