I thought we played OK overall in the Gold Cup..
The biggest problem is that Agyemong is completely frickin useless, slow as hell, and allows the other team to sit back and clog up our passing lanes in the midfield.
You would hope that with his arse on the bench, and some combo of Pulisic/Weah/Pepi, we could stretch the D out a little more

We also played exclusively a bunch of minnows until Mexico,

Yeah yeah I know.. I'm just saying I dont think our squad of MLS and third-teamers looked THAT bad.
Kinda reminded me of the days of trying to play pur entire offense thru Jozy Altidore

Feel like some of the biggest stock ups are guys that he inexplicably left off like Sargent, Scally, and Tessman. I can’t believe he started Arfsten, Freeman, and big Pat over and over, while also rarely subbing them. Really blows Dortmund didn’t release Reyna too.
Really wonder how many of these guys even make the roster next year, I’m honestly hoping it isn’t many.

Agreed. I get wanting to see some new faces and see if they sink or swim. And we did find a few swimmers this tournament. However wouldn’t it have made more sense to balance the squad with some established faces as well to put a better talent and build cohesion? The squad would have even fitted from some of those players.
I posted this in the Mexico thread but I’ll add it here too.
It’s possible to both think Poc did a terrible job in many ways and also think he did a good job making the final.
I’m some ways it’s like congratulating a guy who tied his own hand behind his back for only getting beaten up and not knocked unconscious in a fight.
The squad selection was puzzling. The lack of rotation puzzling. Lots of questions and negative ones at that.
How much of it was him saying he knows what certain players can do and left them out and this is a chance for a whole bunch of new faces to show they belong. Many showed they don’t yet belong. But a few from this tournament will definitely make the World Cup squad.
Now if he keeps calling up the ones who clearly don’t belong at the expense of others the questions become answers.
Poch didnt inherit a good situation at all. Anyone who thought he would instantly fix things was delusional. He has not shown he’s the guy to this point. I’m leaning towards him not ever being the guy. I don’t see how they can fire him a year ahead of the cup though.

There’s only one hire that can save this sinking ship

Some of the guys he past over after seeing them on a call or two are falling because he didn’t play them to their strengths.
Sargent is my biggest beef, and I’m not even some huge Sargent guy. He brought him in and basically never had him check back to post up and receive the ball, which is one of his main skills! And then it seems like he decided “he didn’t perform, so I’m not calling him back in.”
I feel the opposite way with Arfsten. He brings in a super offensive minded LWB to play LB. This guy repeatedly gets toasted over a spit and is defended vs Saudi Arabia like a bad three point shooter, and he has him start almost every game! That dude has almost zero future with the national team as a LB, what a total waste

People keep saying this like we were in dire straits.
Yeah we sucked in Copa and the squad has no depth, but we’re also going into a home World with the Pulisic generation at its primeiest of prime.
Under no circumstance should the expectations for Poch be losing to Panama in the Nations League semifinals and 1-6 against FIFA top 50 teams.
This is the worst start for any USMNT coach since the 80’s and it’s coming at the most important time in US soccer history. Poch deserves blame for somehow lowering the expectation bar even lower than Gregg did
