Not in a soccer sense. We are quite poor with regards to soccer. It's why youth parents fund soccer development instead of MLS clubs.

Not even close. A healthy Modric and Rakitic would destroy our midfield.

Definitely our biggest problem.

No, we aren't
When we have starters for Barcelona and Real Madrid starting in our midfield then we can talk again.

I'd like our chances with a healthy team and a competent manager.

Absolutely not. They have Luka Modric (my favorite CM in the world), Ivan Rakitic, perisic, etc. they are so immensely talented and light years ahead of us.

No fricking chance. Luka would single-handedly beat us. He impacts a game maybe more than anyone else outside of Messi and healthy Ronaldo.

Are yall saying Croatia is a top 7 team in the world? Because that is how you are describing them. We can go toe to toe with anyone not in the top ten.

This is true. I think the frustration comes form getting out of the group stage and winning the first elimination game. I mean, I think everyone knows we had a very slim chance to win, but I think people really really hoped.
People should still be happy, Jurgen's problems or not, it's just sucks to go out that way.
That and it was an "all eyes on us" moment for US Soccer. For soccer fans, they are impatiently waiting for that one moment when the USMNT transcends everything, and helps make soccer a more premier sport in the country. Every time a game or tournament situation like this comes along, it has that chance, that feeling.

No. That's not where the frustration comes from.

In this specific situation, I'm not talking about the overall Jurgen reactions, etc. But even though we probably had a very very small chance to win, it just felt like we could. You get that far and expect to compete.

I expect to not put the two worst players on the field.

And there's no shame in that, Croatia are quite good right now.

Missing 3 starters does not excuse poor execution of basic passes and trapping. I'll say this til my face turns F'ing blue, but most people's frustrations have nothing to do with our player's skills being inferior to Argentina's. It has everything to do with playing scared, unforced turnovers, lack of awareness on offense and defense, and poor decision making. How many times did we opt to clear the ball instead of trapping and passing to another player (when their was time to do so). How many times did we try to just boot the ball down the field to Zardes or Wondo, only for it to go long or be recovered by their defense?

Exactly. It was tactical fear from the manager as we saw against Belgium, but individual technical fear that lowered confidence, which destroyed first touch, passing and movement.

Couldnt disagree more. The US is a have not team and just made it to the semifinals. Losing 4-0 to Argentina, the best team in the world currently, happens. Iceland, Hungary, Wales, Albania, Northern Ireland, Netherlands, Portugal would all disagree with that statement as well. Even look at Algeria, id say they could play a good game against most top 10 teams.

Yep, but we eventually overcame that fear against Belgium and had a chance to win the game. Except:

5) JK gave brand new meaning to the term "free range" when it came to Lionel Messi.
