Are we going to trot out what could be our Gold Cup starters against Venezuela?

I would imagine. Everyone except Adams, who won’t be back with the team yet.

I can kind of see it if the plan was to give him a chance to earn his way onto the squad,

That's dumb considering it came at the expense of the U-20 World Cup.

I know you like to defend whatever happens with this team at all costs, but they fricked Sargent here. He should be in Poland right now if they weren't sure if he was on the Gold Cup 23 or not.

He was apparently on the team until Lletget got hurt.

Nope... If he is your third striker, then he should be with the U-20's.

Paul Tenorio
@PaulTenorio
Berhalter on why Altidore/Zardes as the two strikers over Sargent: "It’s a simple reason: We think they’re ahead of him right now. We have to do what we felt was best for the team right now and that’s the decision we made."

Nope

Except that's exactly what Berhalter said. We were taking 3 strikers until Lletget got hurt. Sargent was #3. Since Lletget could play wing or 10, try felt they needed to add an extra player to both positions. They no longer felt they could take 3 strikers.

The exact quote is on the previous page.

I saying that I reject that premise, because he basically contradicted himself.

Just because a coach says something to the media doesn't mean that it's true.

Like everyone it seems I feel bad for Sargent. He missed his chance to play in a meaningful tournament this year. I hope Morris can find a dog sitter while he's away.

How did he contradict himself? All he said was Sargent was #3 behind Jozy and Zardes, we were taking 3 until Lleget got hurt, could no longer take 3. Where's the contradiction?

don't think so. He really didn't get much service to make an opinion on.

I agree, but i think Sargent would have earned a spot had he performed better.

If anything, he probably got the start as an apology for not being able to have him on the final roster.

I'd say it's more of a consolation due to unfortunate circumstances of Lletget's injury and leaving him off the U-20 WC roster. It would be pretty frustrating for Sargent to not get to play in the U-20 WC AND not see any playing time with the first team. I was surprised he got the start last night but it makes sense now.

Yes, but Berhalter has been far more open and honest than most.

Daniel Lovitz is our only true left back on the roster.

(inb4 pville mentions Ream)

But but Ream has played 43.4% of his matches near the touch line and nutmeged an U-15 player in a closed door game. Great choice by Greg.

Ream is definitely not a true LB, but our LB will often play like a LCB in a back 3.
