I've enjoyed watching MLS since I started watching soccer back around 2009. Chose to follow the Sounders because they were the expansion team that year and I got family in that area. I was excited to see a crowd like that could actually exist in America for something other than the big clubs coming into town.
I'm not as optimistic about its growth as others but maybe that's because I live in the South and not in a really big city so I don't really ever see other MLS fans around here. It is interesting, though, that more and more of the USMNT players seem to want to play in MLS instead of struggling for playing time in Europe.

RSL Season ticket holder two years running now. Was like the second or third thing I did when I moved here in 15.
I think, in general, the league is on the right track. There's a ton of really good young talent really starting to see action the last two years. I think that accelerates quickly. I know a lot of the academies are being very well run.
Yes and no. I think there are still a lot of problems. I think a Promotion/Relegation system should be used. I think the MLS needs to do a better job integrating with the lower leagues.
The DP system is still just bad. The refs are often atrocious.
Yes. RSL has two academy players who are regular starters, both under 20. They can compete now and hold their own. That's only going to get better. The athletes are there, it's just about giving them the support to succeed.

Does the soccer board think that within 10-15 years the league will start producing extremely gifted homegrown players on a regular basis?

That's awesome!

I agree, but when I brought this up to a meeting, it's almost impossible. As it was stated, there are like 4-5 owners that have put sooooo much money into the MLS to get it where it is, if they were relegated to shiftiness, they would be pissed, so I doubt that happens.

I know the Union have 2 Rookies starting and another 2 with the Bethlehem Steel (which is like the minor league team) that are homegrown. The Union definitely are trying to build their academy to build from the ground up. We have one of the lowest payrolls and are in the playoffs.

I think most of us enjoy it even if the quality of play isn't the best.
I just hope the league does not get to big b/c that waters down the talent.
If pay to play is still in US soccer then no, 20+ MLS academies is not enough to compete with the world.

Yep. We need to focus on regional academies that feed into larger ones, and we have to figure out a way to fund that youth system in a sustainable way. If we were to host a WC, we have to ensure that money goes to youth development, not the pockets of influential people.

Mixed feelings for me.
I don't care for their model and the relationship with SUM seems to be fishy. Also they seem to have a lot of influence on the USSF.
I'm a fan of the pro/rel push, no not a fan of Ted, but also not a fan of Loney either.
I think the play in the MLS is improving I just don't think the people running it are leading us in the right direction.

Not to derail this thread, but how far in advance of kickoff are MLS lineups posted?

Usually 30-60 minutes ahead of time.
