So Bradley is basically playin de Rossi's position today while he's still getting back to 100%?

Bradley started where I think he'll mostly play. Zeman had the Greek kid Tachtsidis at holding midfielder where De Rossi should slot in.

However, as I'd mentioned before, Bradley was bought to form the first choice midfield with De Rossi and Pjanic and it's his job to lose. But, he definitely needs to produce because there's a lot of young talent behind him.

Tachtsidis, for example, was playing for the first time on the senior team and slotted that long Pirlo-esce through ball on his first touch 40 seconds in for the opening goal and then scored a beautiful chip.

Bradley played well though. Looked really nervous in his first friendly but was much more confident today.

Tachtsidis had kind of an odd game to me. Two brilliant passes in the first minute and then that brilliant chip, but he gave away possession constantly. Not to discredit his performance cause we'd be going nuts if Bradley pulled off that first assist or the goal, and no one's really fit, and with Zeman's style (from what I've heard) maybe he felt he should constantly be looking for the killer ball.

Obviously a talented kid though.

I thought Bradley was really solid in the first half, some nice passes, broke up play, etc. When he was moved to the deeper position in the second half I thought he drifted out a bit. Partially that could be because Totti came on as one of the 3 forwards but played much differently than them, dropping deep and becoming the playmaker.

I completely agree about all the turnovers. Basically underlines that he's a nice prospect that's not quite ready yet but probably has the quality to begin seeing some time backing up De Rossi and Bradley.
(Though I think you're right about many of the ultra quick passes into the center looking bad because the center forward isn't making it to the spot quickly enough. Seems like it's a key movement being worked on in training since most all of Bradley's turnovers when playing deeper in the last friendly were similar.)

I didn't mean to imply that he's anywhere near taking minutes from Bradley. I was more just referring to all the recent conversation about Bradley's playing time in regard to veterans like Pizarro and pointing out that Bradley's only worry are the kids behind him (or that he underperforms and Roma sign other mids).

I thought Bradley looked good too. Zeman is famous for his degree of conditioning work and in every interview cautions fans to not make too many judgements on the younger players because he's just giving them barebones instructions and observing until training resumes.

Zeman's 4-3-3 may begin to mean Totti finally takes a bit of a backseat this season. He can still contribute--especially against smaller teams that will pack the box for his passing-- but probably has more adjustment than anyone to fit in because of exactly what you point out. He's just not fast enough anymore to cover back and then burst forward the way Zeman's tactics are designed.

However, every time I think that, he ends up surprising and still finding a way to be the most productive player on the pitch.

The first choice CB pairing will be Nicolas Burdisso and Leandro Castan (who we bought from Corinthians earlier this summer).

Barring any huge surprises, the final piece of the mercato will be buying 1 more CB. Rhodolfo or Bruno Uvini from Sao Paulo seem the most prevalent rumors.

The biggest surprise of the summer has been that 17 year old Alessio Romagnoli from the youth team has won a backup CB spot. Zeman can't say enough about him and that's what made Heinze and Kjaer expendable.

Heinze was never really signed last year to be in the first pairing but ended up there when Burdisso was lost for the entire season.

I'll miss Heinze. He may be heading into the twilight of his career but was a real class act at Roma.

As Roma's final friendly was this afternoon against Greek side Aris FC. The starting 11 are probably what we'll be looking at for the beginning of the season (with the exception of Destro probably eventually moving into the starting 11 ahead of 18 year old prodigy Nicolas Lopez and the frightening question marks concerning De Rossi and a "monstrous" bid on it's way from Man City in the next couple of days):

Stekelenberg
Piris -- Burdisso - Castan -- Balzaretti
Bradley -- De Rossi -- Pjanic
Lopez -- Osvaldo -- Totti

Roma looked consistent to most preseason form. Namely dangerous as anyone going forward but often living on a wing and prayer defensively.

Michael Bradley, finally back from a nagging muscle problem, scored Roma's second goal on a nicely placed, glancing header off a cross from Taddei in the second half.

Osvaldo Goal 1-0

Bradley Goal 2-0

Destro Goal 3-0

I felt bad for that GK. He actually played well and made a number of tough saves only to be immortalized on GK error youtube videos.

Ordered my Bradley kit a few days ago

The De Rossi rumors to City are gone. That's good news. I never really put much stock into them anyway.

Thanks for the support!

Did you get the home red or away white one. I ended up getting the Bradley white one just because I already have a few past red ones. I like the new home design a lot with their nod to the classic Barilla kits.

I hope so but am not 100% convinced yet. I'm sure De Rossi prefers to stay (or he obviously would have been gone a long time ago) but am not sure he couldn't be convinced if the ownership urged him to do it. The rumored offer of around 60 million euros is insane for a 29 year old and that still concerns me.

Michael Bradley:

De Rossi was asked at his presser Tuesday about which newcomers had impressed him:

Translation:

"Bradley I've known as an adversary but training with him I've noticed a lot more of his skills. He's an even better player than I was expecting."

Bradley lo avevo affrontato da avversario, ma allenandomici assieme ho scoperto ancora di più le sue qualità ed è un giocatore ancora più bravo di quanto pensassi.

Not a lot of meat but thought it was cool that Bradley was the first that popped into his mind.

Also: Destro and Tachtsidis are getting most of the attention of the younger players but two other newcomers to watch out for:

Nicolas Lopez (Attacking winger, 18 yrs old, Uruguay)

El Conejo, "The Rabbit", earns his nickname for more than than what will be a windfall for a fortunate Roman dentist. At only 18 and assumed to be going out on loan to Serie B, he's now battling neck and neck with wonderkid Erik Lamela for the starting role on the right flank of the attack.

Dodô (Fullback, 20 years old, Brazil)

I'm sorry to have to say it, WarSlamEagle, but he's got a cooler name, better hair and more smooth summer samba than either of ManU's Brazilian cherubini.
