wow. wasn't Joe Cole considered a bit of a prodigy as a youth player?

What about Andy Najar? Can we poach him?

Add Eddie Gaven to the list of 20-somethings, or is he not at that level?
I think Gaven can still contribute. He's only 24, but people forget that because he's been in MLS for 8 years.
I see Gaven (when his head's on right) as a poor man's Dempsey.

quote:My team in New Orleans does this. We have 4 different Arsenal kits, the warm-ups and practice shirts have a Fleur de lis to show we are from this area. Chelsea, Barcalona, Juventus have all been in the league in recent years. The rest of the teams are based off Honduran club teams like Montagua and Platense.
im not really finding much of a connection and yet they use the arsenal logo, wear their jerseys, and use the name, so there almost has to be some form of a connection.

From the chelsea website link posted on page 2.
We will now be known as LAFC Chelsea, showing the world that CFC is behind our players. Our colors will change to blue and white and all teams will get new uniforms next season.
Chelsea will help us financially by providing some scholarships to economically disadvantaged players. They won’t contribute enough to cover all scholarships so we’ll still need to raise additional funds as we always have.
Annually, select players and coaches will be sent to England to be evaluated and trained by Chelsea. And annually, Chelsea coaches will come here to work with all of our coaches and kids.
Our girls’ program will be enhanced by the relationship with Chelsea’s womens’ program and CFC will help us with our new WPSL franchise next year.
We’ll get to participate in more international tournaments and Chelsea teams will come here to play friendlies with us.
There’s much more that will unfold over the next many months but one thing is very clear. Chelsea chose LAFC because we are the top youth club in the U.S. And we chose Chelsea because they are the top Club in the world. Here’s the text of the press release that went out.
quote:Yes, I’m proudly decked out in LAFC Chelsea gear as I bring you good news for the Club. And our U18 Academy team was also decked out in Chelsea gear as they beat the Men’s U17 National Team 1 – 0 on Saturday night. And make no mistake about it, we won that game. Last year, we beat the Mexican U17 National Team 2 – 1 and now the U.S. team. The message is clear. The top youth players in the country are being developed at LAFC. And our players’ development has now been enhanced by the partnership with Chelsea FC, in my opinion the top name in soccer in the world. A full press release follows but here are some of the specific ways LAFC will benefit from the partnership:
Chelsea & LAFC Ink a Unique Partnership

I don't feel good about hating a youth squad, but y'all brought it on yourselves.

Would it be possible for someone knowledgeable to up with something like a top 10 list? With a lot of these guys playing in MLS I think it would definitely spur more interest in our league.

Names I've seen on every list are Charles Renken and Joseph Gyau

Whatever happened to Brandon Manzonelli? I remember seeing a vid of him when he was younger and looked like he had some real potential. All I knew was that he was young and was signed by Villareal.
From WIKI: 20 years old now, midfielder. He signed with Villareal when he was 16, played 25 games on their U-18 team with 8 goals and 10 assists, and also made 3 appearances with their reserves. Had trials with Blackburn and Man City in the EPL, then moved to MLS with the Revolution in '08 and scored on his league debut. He was called up for the US U-20's vs Mexico and had 2 assists in a 3-0 win.
Now he currently has no club? Damn, seemed like a budding player.

Cases like Manzonelli happen a lot. Just look at Johann Smith. Most of the players listed earlier in this thread won't make it as international players.

Yep, it's a lot like the Rivals 250 every year. Some will become stars, others will be decent players, and probably half of the names won't ever make it in any meaningful league.

In 2014 GAM will only be 30.

I think I would rather have had him than Robbie Findley in S.A.
