They did it after Gregg went to that bullshite summit and alluded to a player almost getting sent home.

I'm not team Gregg. Up until the statement to get ahead of this ordeal, he handled everything wrong to this point. But I'm definitely not team Claudio and Danielle Reyna... they are some babyback bitches for weaponizing 3 decade old information just because their adult son's world cup didn't go as planned. That sucks to say because Claudio was one of my favorite players as a kid.

As for Gio, maybe it's because he's really fricking young and really fricking good, but I'm still holding out hope that he can come out of the other side of this a better player and teammate.

Right there with you. This is a total shite show.
I realize it's a pipe dream, but every one in the upper echelon needs to go.

Max Bretos said today that maybe this cycle we need someone from outside th US with no ties and beholden to no one at USSF.

Gio didn’t have anything to do with it. Imo it doesn’t make him look bad at all. In fact, his behavior (temper tantrum) makes total sense now that we’re seeing how unprofessional US Soccer management has become.

Quit. Excusing. Bad. Behavior.

ESPN said that Claudio was sending threats during the WC.

Yeah, but every report since has said Dec 11 was the doomsday and the USSF mentioned that as the date in the press conference yesterday.

Reynas seem like a lot of travel/competitive team sports parents. Inserting themselves into situations and causing a fuss whenever said kid isn’t getting starts or playing time. Gio is going to have to hurt some feelings and set some hard boundaries for his parents from the looks of it.

What behavior? Gio threw his tantrum then apologized. That’s all we know. Everything else that has happened is what OTHER people have done. His parents and Gregg are the problems, not him.

US Soccer and Gregg Berhalter have alleged blackmail/extortion. That’s really all I care about. I want to know what the truth is. If there is evidence of it, then yeah it’s ramped up and Gio needs to distance himself from it. If there isn’t, then my gosh it’s an even bigger black eye for the organization and for Gregg.

You’re excusing his temper tantrums? All the shite going on around him sucks, sure, but how he practices, plays, and interacts with his teammates is 100% within his control. Maybe we will agree to disagree here.

Has he had any issues at Dortmund? I dont really follow them too much and soccer news is always full of fake drama.

What are you saying people should feel about the “temper tantrum”?
I’m just not sure of the significance of it other than it being something for his coaches to watch for going forward and for him to learn from. If he doesn’t learn from it, given all of the fallout that resulted from it, then just have to hope he’s a good enough player to make it worth dealing with.

If Gregg was an awesome manager, I don’t think most of us would mind his personal faults as much as we do.
Of course the girlfriend beating is inexcusable, but it was a long time ago and the victim forgave him, and maybe the fact that he hasn’t been immediately cancelled for that is a sign that society will begin to take a more nuanced view of past transgressions.

Does anyone know exactly what this describes? Any displeasure by those below, relayed to those above could be termed this way. Gregggg has done his best to deserve criticism.

I think it’s inarguable that Gio responded poorly to Gregg telling him he was going to have a small role in the World Cup.

I put temper tantrum in quotes because my impression was more that he sulked and gave poor effort. I don’t remember hearing that he threw a big fit or lashed out in any way.

Why is this such a big deal? Lots of players do it. And I’m not excusing it, I said I understand it. Why? Because apparently US Soccer looks more like the OC than it does a professional organization.

Yeah I agree I was using the term loosely and also because there was a report that he threw his shin guards

The manager publicly stated that he never had any problems with Gio and that he has amazing work ethic

Still seems a little absurd that Gregg decided pre tournament that Gio was going to have a “very limited” role.

Wtf was that about?
People online speculating that it was retaliation for something Claudio did regarding Gregg’s son at AustinFC, but surely that can’t be it.
