Just was hoping to get some perspective, since I tuned in yesterday and didn't really recognize most of those players.
I obviously don't follow the roster that closely, but curious who are the main players (other than CP) that weren't out there.

Like if Qatar was tomorrow, who would you say is on that roster in your opinion?

Steffen
Dest-Richards-Brooks-Robinson
Adams
McKennie-Musah
Reyna-Sargent-Pulisic

Really the only players on this Gold Cup roster that were already in Gregg's plans are Lletget, Cannon, Acosta, Dike and I guess, Yueill and Zimmerman, however only Lletget and Cannon have been routinely getting starts in the first choice XI when everyone is healthy and available.

But guys like Moore, Sands and Vines are showing that they will probably warrant some call-ups in key games come World Cup qualifying time.

We can only take 23. I'm probably going to name slightly more.

GK - Steffen, Horvath, Turner
LB - Antonee Robinson, Vines
CB - Brooks, Richards, McKenzie, Long
RB - Dest, Cannon, Yedlin
DCM - Adams, Acosta
CM - McKennie, Musah, Lletget, Reyna
Wing - Aaronson, Pulisic, Morris, Weah
ST - Sargent, Dike, Zardes, Pefok

Also possible that someone like Miles Robinson, Zimmerman, Moore, etc. make it, but I think I listed most of the main candidates. Also assuming everyone is healthy (Long and Morris are trying to come back from serious injuries).

He's doing OK in the German 2nd division.

We'll see how he does this year since his club got promoted to the Bundesliga.

It’s pretty funny looking at our 2014 World Cup roster now.

Brooks and Yedlin had less than 5 caps heading into the tournament, and are the only current USMNT mainstays remaining from that team. Julian Green is the only other player from that squad still on the radar. Hopefully he’ll earn some looks in WC qualifying.

Aron Johannsson and Mix Diskerud wore the #9 and #10 shirts on that roster. They currently play in the Polish and Cypriot leagues, respectively.

The rosters shown in posts above are probably very close to what we would take to Qatar if the tournament were today. I think we have 15 or 16 guys that are just about guaranteed to make the roster, barring injury or collapse in form, and 7 or 8 spots up for grabs. We should be able to pick the top 30 by the end of WC qualifying and then trim that down in camp to the final 23 we take to Qatar.

It’ll be interesting. We have several guys in Europe establishing themselves in new clubs/leagues like Green, LDT, and KDF, some of whom will probably get a look. As well as Tessman and Busio moving to Venezia. We also have Jordan Morris and Aaron Long coming back from severe injuries who will fight for time. Then guys like Moore, Sands, and Robinson who have played well in the Gold Cup to warrant a further look.

It’s also a safe bet there’s one or two guys who haven’t been capped yet for the senior team end up in Qatar. That always happens, like when Klinsmann took Brooks and Green to Brazil and surprised many people. I think Caden Clark could maybe do that if his move to Leipzig goes really well. Maybe even a surprise like Jonathan Gomez at left back, if we can convince him to play for us and not Mexico.

Does anyone know how the rosters for WC qualifying will work? Are we only allowed to select 23 players for each window, or can we bring in a bigger group for the window and narrow it to 23 for each game? If we can do the latter, expect us to call in a lot of guys and they’ll battle it out for playing time, especially in those 3-match windows where we’ll have to rotate heavily.

This is infuriating looking back considering Mix didn't play at all and Johannsson only played in the first match against Ghana after Jozy went down.

We were playing a 4-2-3-1 that tournament with Dempsey at the #10 playing behind Jozy. After the Ghana match and with Jozy out of the picture, we moved Dempsey down to the striker and Bradley as the #10.

Could've very easily used our second best striker on the roster or try Mix as the #10 with Dempsey as the striker. Either would've kept Bradley (our best player at the time) in his more natural position, but Jurgen didn't do that. He never had any intention of playing Mix or Bacon, he just wanted them "along for the ride" as part of his master plan to get them experience for the 2018 cycle, which was then and obviously is still now SO frickING DUMB considering you have no idea how your player pool will evolve over the next four years.

He was using 2014 as a test run for a 2018 World Cup that he never lasted to the see the day and it severely hampered our chances in making the World Cup.

fricking Jurgen.

Pretty sure Aron was also injured.

Jurgen said this, which kind of flew in the face of him playing 70 minutes against Ghana, and then a few years later Johannsson said he was never seriously injured.

Curious if anyone on here knows how good that Canadian lineup was for them. Other than Alphonso Davies was that pretty much a Canadian A team?

I was impressed by Buchanan. Would be nice to see Canada take a step forward as a soccer nation to improve the competition for the US.

And Jonathan David.

Other than that, all of those guys have pretty much been their usual call-ups the last few years.

He had ankle surgery right after the WC and missed the first ~2 months of the season. Sounds like there was at least some issue and the coaching staff probably didn't want to risk it.

That’s two pretty solid guys to add to a team. Is full strength Canada the third strongest concacaf team on paper right now (behind Mexico and US).

Tough to say. I don’t think there’s a clear cut #3 is CONCACAF right now. We should have a better idea of where everyone stands after the first Octagonal window in September.

Canada is much stronger then they’ve been in past cycles, but I’m still not very impressed with their defense or midfield. Honduras has scary speed and firepower, but I don’t trust their defense.

Jamaica is a complete wild card and who knows how many dual-nationals they end up getting from England? I think they have a good chance to at least make the play-off in 4th place. And now El Salvador is looking pretty strong all of a sudden.

I think Costa Rica and Panama will take a step back this cycle. They don’t seem to have much young talent to replace the guys who are aging out now. I don’t expect either to qualify this time. The fight for spots 3 and 4 should be really close. Hopefully, we aren’t involved this time. I expect we’ll qualify reasonably smoothly, this time.

I love how you are ignoring that Bacon said he could play and that he actually did play and instead are projecting your own thoughts onto them just to play your usual devil’s advocate role.

I'm not ignoring shite. A player saying he can play is not the same as him being 100%. He obviously had some sort of problem.

He probably shouldn't have been on the team in the first place.
