This is a question for the Soccer Board aficionados, the most cultured and sophisticated community of posters. I, of course, am a lover of the silky smooth, deep, rich, brewed perfection that is Guinness. Yet, on the whole, I find myself drawn to the brews of the Germans and the Czechs as the pinnacle of beer. Deciding between the two is difficult, but I lean to Germany. This is of course down to personal opinion and individual preference.

What say you?

Belgium and Czech Republic top my list.

Hoegaarden, Czechvar and Pilsner Urquel are probably my top 3.

Germany probably has the most squad depth though. There's so many I haven't even tried yet either.

Well, you answered your own question...

Cider is the Basque Country (seriously, it's completely unlike anything else in the world).

Czech beer is consistently terrific and cheap. Walk in any direction for five minutes outside of the city center of Prague and you'll find a place with great beer for a dollar for .5L. It's incredible.

With that said, I think you can find some of the best beer in the world in the good old USA. You just have to look a little harder and pay more money.

Nice try. That would be Asturias.

After Asturian cider, I agree, Basque is wonderful.

Are there any brands of Asturian or Basque cider I can try in the states?

I think you can only find the champagned versions for holidays. I may be wrong.

It´s said fresh cider travels poorly, and especially by airplane.

I´ve got more art than the guy on top. I too, hold it over my head, but pour behind my shoulders, and hold the glass by it´s arse. The ´sidra´ is arching over my shoulders and landing on the lip of the glass at my waist.

That is how I was taught.

What he does is not wrong, but it´s less eventful, and for serving up in restaurants with great speed.

Kids practice in the shower with a bottle and water (once you´re out and about when older, you can´t show that you´ve got no dominion and lose precious nectar).

USA and its not even close. 10 years ago I would have probably said Belgium or some other Euro country. Our craft beer market exploded since. You can't find as good of beer here and as good of selection anywhere else.

And Ireland? Seriously? They have a weak arse selection. I love Guineas but they don't have much to offer other than that.

Craft beer on the Continent has exploded, and believe me, it´s damned good. You´ve got world class beers from olive and grape countries like Italy and Spain.

We´re talking about countries, and the US craft market, while full of amazing product, still aren´t refined for the most part (they´re heavy handed).

Don´t get me wrong, I LOVE US craft beer, but it ain´t all that if you´ve not been abroad as of late (they´re no dummies, they´re not sitting on their laurels).

Word. Their local beers they don't export are the best too. I'd go Czech, followed by Germany. I'm not familiar with many Belgian beers though.

Lulz

Anything made by Brewdog crushes American craft beer. Punk IPA is the one seed and it's not even close. Luckily they just opened a brewery in Columbus.

To answer the OP it just depends what you looking for. The UK clearly makes the best ales and Punk IPA is amazing. Belgium just has that something that makes their beer so good. I was at a festival and drinking what this local called their equivalent to bud light and it was amazing. Czech beer is good bang for your buck, the prague beer fest had some great stuff. Good largers. Germany also great overall scope of different types my personal favorite is Augustine which is a larger usually served at festivals.

Can we also debate about whiskey in this thread

Yes, absolutely.

I love the Irish whiskeys, their delicate fruitiness, flavorful spice, and subtle sweetness. Jameson is an old standard, a solid spirit at a solid price. I also love Bushmills, Green Spot, and Redbreast.

The American whiskeys (or bourbons) are a standby of mine as well. Knob Creek is fantastic; I enjoy its warm mellowness and deep flavor. Bulleit is another choice; I find it slightly sweeter.

Scotch whiskeys offer smoky, tobacco flavor richness, almost like a liquified cigar. Old Pultney with a wee bit of water is one to savor.

I had a similar experience in the Czech Republic where I enjoyed their equivalent to Budweiser. "The original, real budweiser," my local drinking friend informed me. He also referred to American Budweiser as "sinister."
