The group stage was always going to be pretty crappy after the money grab expansion.

I love how people are saying this but teams like Northern Ireland and Wales would have qualified regardless of the tournament being expanded.

the euros have been horrible

both teams afraid to lose the point, playing for draws, boring.

Now, when we get into knock out, if it continues, this will go down as a boring tourney. ill give them the benefit of doubt, going into knock out

The bigger problem to me is not the quality of teams that got in but the fact that over half the 3rd place teams will advance. It takes nearly all the drama away.

B/c the level of competition is better at the Euro's.

Is it though? I like Paraguay's chances against Albania, or Ecuadors chances against Northern Ireland. I understand you've got more "big league" players in the Euros- but I don't know if I'd say the level of competition is better. Hell just look at the last World Cup. 6 teams from Europe got out of their group, 8 teams from the Americas. I get you're a euro elitist, but I disagree with your statement. The euros have a higher payroll, I don't think that equates to better competition. Sure, there isn't a Haiti playing in the euros..but pot 1-3 in copa were all solid squads

Have you watched Albania play? They have been far from a push over.

I don't NI has been playing great so far. I'd say that's a pretty even match up.

Quality of overall players is better in the Euro's

Completely different competition and in a different time frame.

Has nothing to do with saying the euro's has been better so far. I'd much rather have the tournament the USMNT is playing in be more entertaining and have better quality.

Better quality players will give you better overall quality of play. Perfect example was France's 0-0 last night Payet and Pogba were on a whole different level last night. If either of the shots that went of the post would have went in it would have been the goal of the summer.

Lower end teams in the Euro's def are better than in the Copa.

Just take each competition for whats its worth and enjoy.

Copa has been a lot more entertaining, but Euros have been more technical football.

Overall level of play is definitely higher at Euros, but there's been some quality soccer at the Copa, too. Chile/Argentina was the best game at either tournament so far.

I think right now Argentina could take any team in the world. Chile is damn good too, but after that, there is definitely a drop off. If I had to rank the top 16 teams in the world, I think 6 or 7 would be CONCACAF/CONMEBOL. 1 or 2 African. 7-8 European teams.

You think there are CONCACAF teams in the top 6/7?

No, there are 6-7 teams from CONCACAF and CONMEBOL in the top 16.

I'd say the teams would be something like this: Argentina, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Chile, England, Belgium, Colombia, Brazil, Portugal, Uruguay, Mexico, USA, Ivory Coast, Switzerland, and Ghana.

I would probably put Croatia somewhere on that list, but otherwise it seems pretty solid.

Yes, that's a big oversight. Definitely a top 12 team.

I was kind of just winging it.

Copa, I think UEFA will surpass it in the knockouts but prelim incentivize draws since the top 3 in each group get through, this in turn incentivizes conservative play.

Totally agree, and I'm shocked that Netherlands isn't on the list, but they don't deserve it right now.

As far as which tournament has been more entertaining, I'd have to say Copa. If I had to compare them I'd say the Euro has looked like the NFL while the Copa has looked like college football. I prefer college football to the NFL. There are very few weak players in the NFL whereas college teams typically have one or two weak players. I enjoy watching how teams attack and protect the weaker players.

I think one noticeable difference is not many team's in COPA have been willing to just sit back and park it. Let to some serious beatdowns, but it has been fun to watch.

I´d like to add there is nothing wrong with low or non score matches, they can be just as exciting. Until now, I don´t think we´ve seen this, but it most certainly is true (exciting and gripping matches needn´t be goalfests).

I've enjoyed both, but I've seen tons of people on other sites saying the Euros are basically unwatchable. I don't agree, but there's a lot of that opinion out there.
