re: Why can’t the US ever turn the corner?

the USA is facing what we call gym rats except on the pitch. These people eat, sleep, breathe soccer and in many cases, its the only way out of a bad situation. kids have better skills than in the USA out of the gate, then you mix in developmental levels that identify these talents and inject them with 24/7 skill development at the academies. we are starting to get better at the second part, but we dont have world-class talent where it matters. the face of our team gets benched half of his EPL games.

Coaching at the grass roots level is the problem, not talent. You can pick all the NFL or NBA athletes you want, they wouldn't be superstars in soccer just because they are superstars in other sports.
Do we lose some players who could be stars to other sports of course…but this is a much larger problem for the US
I would argue not just grass roots but college and in the MLS. The MLS has taken some steps foreword in recent years and should be in the right direction.
Also in terms of years of soccer being a major sport we’re so far behind…everywhere.

Pump the brakes. Maybe no one in their exact situation, but are we ready say that just because they are in big leagues?
They are by far the most technically gifted group of players we've ever had.

My son plays through a league with the Houston Dynamo and maybe I’m incredibly deft but their coaches have been fantastic. Then again I am in a major metro area with better resources.

college and in the MLS
College doesn't really factor into the discussion anymore and the MLS academies have done really well in the short time they've been around.
It's why I'm hesitant to say that this is our "golden generation" because this group is the last remnants of the residency program and the first trickle of products out of MLS academies. I think our golden generation is on the near horizon, but this generation is important because it is showing those in the academies right now that you can be a starter at a top club overseas.

What is this, all of the camp coaches I’ve experienced with the dynamo all sound English.

Because our coaching and tactical approach to the game is still lacking.

What is this,
In a very basic description, we brought all of our "best" young players to Bradenton, Fl. Basically the IMG Academy.

You’re right, but I’m not just talking ab the 23…er now 26 man squad but the pool of guys they have to push them at every stage. Every year we’ve seen more and more players in the top leagues in Europe, im just hoping we continue in that direction.

Gotcha, if soccer was near the same popularity as football or baseball then I think that the States would generate some amazing players.
Anecdotal evidence but when I was in Cabo in June we watched random locals kick around a ball for a good while then decided to throw a football afterwards and the difference was night and day.

Well yeah, but it has nothing to do with lack of talent. We are a country of 350 million, there is enough talent to be dominant in sports without syphoning off of another. It's all about developing that talent to the best of our abilities, which we are still in the fetus stages of that.

I have to believe that all of the MLS teams are establishing academies in their respective areas to develop this talent which is why I should probably support them a little more than I do.

They are already established and churning out talent, and it will only get better this decade and beyond.

Yes.
Those teams don’t spend tens of millions unless they know there is ability. They may not pan out but the talent in the mid field is finally top tier.

We do well considering Soccer is our 7th most popular Sport. Soccer is the number one sport in just about every other country at this World Cup.
Also our best athletes choose other sports first so Soccer is left with the scraps. Imagine if guys like Lebron and the Gronk chose to focus on Soccer? We would pretty much unstoppable.

You sure about that?
Tyler Adams is hella more athletic than Zach Wilson.

What could a Tyreek Hill type player do if he had some ball handling skills?

The CASUALS are out and about today lol
Posted on 11/21/22 at 5:20 pm to TackySweater
Because our lineup today could be an Olympic roster. We had three starters today over 25. Let’s bump this after 2026. If we are still drawing the Welsh then then we have a problem.

In a population sense, yes, but we aren't really competing over the same demographics as the other sports. We need to maximize the player base that we do have, or else we are going to produce versions of what we always produced, extremely athletic players who don't have the necessary technical ability.
