Part of it was a team Messi vs Team Ronaldo spat.
Part of it is that he comes off as a primadonna, but he actually has the right to not just because of how great he has been, but the dude works his arse off as much as any player. People just don’t see that part and assume he is an entitled athlete superstar.
I think his personality early on mixed with his quick rise versus the golden boy Messi was a big part of it.
Sad part is if you look at him as a person off the field he is ten times the man that Messi is. He’s a really good dude and puts in a lot for his family and others.
Ironically, Messi is the more selfish one of the two.
