Regardless of the debate, how worried do you have to be if you’re a Mexico fan? If you concede how bad we are, Mexico barely beat us with their A squad with so many holes, and acted like they won the World Cup. They’ve got to be sweating.

Why would they be worried now compared to then?
They have won 2 straight against us after not beating us for three years. We had ALL of the momentum against Mexico... that's gone now.
Keep moving those goalpost to protect Poch.

I did. You didn’t read, or ignored, any/all of this thread where I have broken it down pretty simply for you.

This is so sad.
You’re grasping for straws to explain away the worst start any USMNT coach has had
But he has an accent, so…

The manager is the one that runs shite, not the players. If the players want to dictate terms, they need to stop playing and be managers. I get that it is controversial when your best player and manager are at odds, but this situation is a symptom of Gregg’s “besties and vibes” environment. God forbid someone with a sack come in and establish a baseline of expectations higher than that of his predecessor. Weak arse mentality. “Oh I’m tired.”

Yes, that’s what actually happened.
I don’t doubt Pulisic cares about the USMNT, or that he has pride in his nation, but his actions don’t back up that level of care he feels.

Why are you giving Poch such a long leash?

Comment from Reddit thread on this:
So far Poch who is getting $6 million / year from US Soccer has:
• lost to and been outcoached by Panama
• lost to and been outcoached by Canada
• lost to and been outcoached by Mexico twice
• blown out in humiliating fashion by Switzerland (4 goals over 23 minutes)
• 0 for 3 in games that matter for trophies
• 0 for 5 against top 30 teams
• quarterfinals drew Costa Rica and advanced on PKs
• semifinals beat Guatemala by 1 goal despite being outshot
• zero wins against European teams
• zero wins against teams that anyone could consider good
• can't be bothered to recruit players
• can barely be bothered to go watch our players (Atlanta vs Revs only because US Soccer is in Atlanta)
• can't even be bothered to make changes to his lineups
• seems to be feuding with some of the best USMNT players
• all this despite playing pretty much every game at home
If GGG got these results the fan base would be seething.

Huh, I feel like this is something the coach has some control over. Why was Agyemang the man up top and not the Championship forward of the year?

When you have a new manager with a depleted roster availability, looking only at the results is literally missing the forest for the trees.

I’m more of a process guy than a results guy, at least at the start of a cycle. I give Poch a lot of leeway to tinker, but some of his decisions are downright puzzling.
- Falling in love with Arfsten, a wingback and converted winger, and playing him as a LB, when Tolkin is a better LB
- Relying on Agyemang when Sargent was available. I don’t even mind Agyemang starting during the tournament because we didn’t really create a lot of chances and he was a good release valve at times. I think Downs should have gotten more playing time.
- Not calling in Scally to compete with Freeman, because Harriel was a disaster
- Not calling in Zendejas or Griffin Yow when we had zero winger depth
- Playing Berhalter on the wing?
- Subs consistently came too late to influence the game
- Where is Paxten Aaronson? He was one of the best young players in the Dutch league this year and can play anywhere in the midfield or even false 9.
- Tanner Tessmann is also better than other midfield options but wasn’t called in
- Zero rotation for the last three games
We had a stronger roster than every team but Mexico, by a wide margin, and kind of just scraped by most games. Our xG for the Guatemala game was only like 1.7. Their entire team plays in the Guatemalan league except the dual nats. We basically got dragged through this tournament by Luna, Tillman, and Richards.

What do you all make of these quotes:
I’m not one to read too much into things but can’t help but think there’s more going on behind the scenes. CR’s quote sticks out.
Sounds like they are passing on the message that the outside “guys” need to get on board…?

Despite the loss, this summer was a clear win for Pochettino and his shorthanded squad, one that was missing Christian Pulisic and about a dozen other regulars over the last five weeks.
It also sends a clear message. Especially with the biggest test of them all looming – the 2026 World Cup on home soil in less than a year. "It has to translate right away, or I think Mauricio just probably won't call people in," said heart-and-soul U.S. midfielder Tyler Adams, one of just a handful of World Cup roster locks in this group along with fellow mainstays like Chris Richards, Malik Tillman and Tim Ream.
quote:
I think we understand what the standard is now," Ream said. "We understand what we need to do on and off the field. We understand what kind of culture is wanted from us. It took a little bit longer than it probably should have.
quote:
There's a few non-negotiables from now on," said center back Richards, who scored the only U.S. goal on Sunday. "When the guys come back into camp, I think these are some things that we have to hold each other accountable for, and hopefully moving forward, if we can add a little bit more quality to it as well, I think that we're going to be a really tough team to beat."

I think it's empty words, Tyler and Chris both know that their best chance at any success in the World Cup (which leads to better opportunities in bolstering their individual profiles) includes Pulisic. Poch knows this too.
Pulisic, assuming he continues to play at the level he's been playing at in Milan from now through next June, could skip every friendly for the USMNT until the World Cup and will still be on the roster, because it's in the best interest of everyone involved.

No doubt. I think we all know that as well.
I know this is speculation, but whatever is going on, I hope there doesn’t become a stalemate between Poch’s stubbornness and CP’s ego. Really need these guys to get on the same page. Maybe this is the drama arc that fires on a redemption? Because it’s more than the skills from CP we need, it’s the buy in.

Because you don't really have a true choice of constructing a lineup/roster that's tailored to specific player profiles outside of some dual-nat recruiting, the international game is more about man-management and getting the most out of the players that you have in your pool.
Beyond the results themselves, I think that's been Poch's biggest misstep thus far as coach.
