I prefer Holden in the studio.
I'm not huge on him as an in-game color commentator.

Why not?

He fricking called the the second Diego Costa goal off the free kick before it even happened.

I feel like he always tries to make a big point every time he speaks. Like he almost needs to turn it down just a little bit.

Don't get me wrong, he's good at it overall, but he's no Steve McManaman.

Calling it now...in a week’s time the nightly recap show is going to be a massive hit on this board and there will be a nightly in game thread to celebrate its shittiness.

I turned it on and saw Fiore hosting (WTF) and Grant Wahl as an analyst and turned it off immediately.

Redknapp and Savage would be a better show than what FOX is doing.

I could go the rest of my life and be happy if I never heard of Fiore again.

The WC is at least 30% less enjoyable w/o Jon Champion calling games.

SPAIN IS TEETERING, SPAIN IS TOTTERING!!

You’re just never gonna get that from an American. There’s no poetry. It’s all very technical.

Fiore is apparently a famous Spanish network presenter, but he’s not suited for an American audience at all. Just can’t take him seriously. I guess he serves as FOX’s attempt to bring in Hispanic viewers, but I guarantee most of them aren’t watching the tournament on FOX anyways.

I miss Bob Ley and Mike Tirico so much. Alexi looks miserable without Ballack there to deadpan.

Just about every Spanish thing I've ever seen just seems so corny, and Fiore fits that mold perfectly.

They know what they’re talking about but I definitely prefer the English voice when watching any match. It is what it is.

Why does Grant Wahl have a job that puts him on TV? He looks like a teenager wearing his dad's suit and his voice is the absolute worst.

He was so salty about the attention Men in Blazers were getting a few years back and it was awesome.

The old guard of American soccer writing is so bad. They’re extra self-important (the thing I hate most about sportswriters... you’re covering a game) and super passive-aggressive.

Rog Bennett can write circles around Grant Wahl, and he’s jealous because MIB tapped into the entertainment aspect of soccer fandom in the US better than some ultra-sensitive dork for Sports Illustrated.

Nothing worse than a sports writer who treats his job like he's covering the Nuremberg Trials

Agreed on all accounts, and the best part about the timing of that tweet was that, while Rog is more entertainer than hard-hitting journo, that was a couple of months removed from when he produced that documentary series on the USA's lead up to the World Cup.

Wahl wishes he could pull of shite like that.

My goal is to get Grant Wahl to block me before the World Cup ends.
