Birmingham area...I'm in an IT department of 2, so I do a little of everything for 150 users, roughly. I feel like a systems admin, but my title is that of an IT assistant

IT Spec 1 for state guh-mint. I manage our WDS & A/V systems as well as act as top-tier support for our desktop support (and catch the calls when the not-top-tier-support guy and our student worker are out). Some AD and network work, travel from time to time.

Prior to that, with some college years mixed in, I spent 6 years doing Helpdesk and then QA for a major telco/ISP.

Having "customers" that are co-workers >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> having customers that are the general public.

god isn't that the truth...and I've never had to deal with general public for tech support. But I know how stupid the people I work with are when it comes to computers and they use them every day for their job (somehow). I can't imagine how miserable it would be dealing with someone's personal computer issues.

It's more about the attitude. When it's people you work with, they are more likely to understand you are doing everything you can to help them, you have more time to devote to them and it's not their personal computer.

Because of these things, I don't get calls that consist solely of "frick you" before they hang up like I did when working with the general public.

No, I'm actually an ISR-Account Manager. I would be able to assist with providing the resources for virtualization deployments (server, network, storage, desktop) for agencies and organizations like yours though.
