Looks like this one is gonna be measured in feet, not inches

First time to Wolf Creek mid-January, seasoned citizen skiers, staying in Pagosa Springs. How concerned should we be about negotiating the drive to the ski area? We’ll have a AWD vehicle and have some experience driving in the mountains (for flatlanders anyway.) Also any general tips appreciated for the WC skiing (solid blues) and stuff to do in Pagosa Springs.
You won't need to worry about much, especially with an AWD/4WD. They'll plow the roads up to the pass. At most, you might sit at the bottom waiting for the plow.
Alley House and Meander are both very good options if you want to eat something nice. Kip's and Mountain Pizza are casual dining staples. I'd recommend not waiting until last lift through or by the time you get down the mountain, everything will be packed.
Definitely hit the springs after a long hard day on the mountain.
No reason to go up and over Putt Hill unless you just want to. Putt Hill and west is pretty much the locals part of town - grocery stores, etc. East of there is the "ski town." I spend weeks/months at a time up there and never go over the hill unless it's for groceries, golf at the club in the summer time, or to go up Piedra to the Weminuche.
Enjoy the mountain. If you like blue cruisers, Treasure and Bonanza are your best lifts. Alberta lift for blue and black tree skiing.

My son is a lift operator in Deer Valley this season. Their first big snow of the year is this weekend.

Thanks for the Pagosa/Wolf Creek intel. We’re staying in a condo on Park Ave a mile or two west of Walmart (not the Wyndham property.) I assume that’s also west of Putt Hill, whatever that is. Is that a bad location?

Glad I blew a grand on the Ikon pass this year. Conditions look like arse.

It is early December.

Yep. Keep the vibes positive and pray for snow.

How would Big Sky be around March 20th?

My favorite time to go, crowds are smaller and peak snow pack for the steeper stuff.

Any recommendations for ski rentals in Breck? Have an Epic Pass, so seeing if there is anything better than what Breck Sports has? Want in the main village so they can store the skis at night. TIA

Blue river sports has always been the cheapest I could find. They are right off main street by gravity haus and have decent stuff.

I have been, we got a Pineapple Express instead. So much for my prayers
Got my first turns of the season this weekend at Bogus Basin, which had 1 lift and 1 run open (along with a terrain park serviced by a carpet). At least we're skiing...on a 4 inch base. This time last year the entie frontside of the mountain was wide open.
Mid-to-long term forecast doesn't look good for the PNW and SW Idaho, more rain and record highs. Wish it wasn't such a long flight to the East Coast, would book a trip to Stowe or Jay Peak.

The western trough forming in the long range is good to see.

Ski season doesn't start until January in my mind. Anything before that is lagniappe. December always has poor conditions and a shite load of people packed onto limited terrain. I live 25 minutes from the resort and usually only make it up like once until after the holidays

Nope, not bad at all. Just on the town side vs. the “ski town” side. All it means is you’ll want to stop for dinner/drinks on your way off the mountain, or you’ll be backtracking if you go to the condo first. It’s not bad at all.
You’ll see what we call Putt Hill when you drive between Wolf and your condo. You go up and over a hill that distinctly separates Pagosa Springs the town and Pagosa Springs the ski town (the river, hot springs, ski shops, cooler restaurants, etc.)

Both statements can be accurate - anything before Christmas can be lagniappe and we can be at the lowest snowpack and snow-water-equivalent in recorded history (at least here in the PNW).

Demo rentals are only $50/day after you pay the one time $50 membership fee.
It doesn't make sense if you ski enough to own. But anything more than 2-3 days, it seems to be cheaper and more convenient, especially if your demo options are low.
Jones Mtn Twin, Capita BoaF and DOA, Warpig, Salomon Assassin.
Anyone used My Epic Gear last season?

Flying up to Alaska to ski Alyeska later this week. Looks cold but I'll have a good time for some early season turns!

Good luck boys, may the powder be in your favor...
Seems to be a nice week shaping up in Utah. I've had one full day and a couple of short trips with my son at Snowbasin. We are running on fumes but should be able to make it until Wednesday.
