Am I going crazy or are MSY-MIA flights unreasonably high?

A little over a year ago we took a trip and flights were $150. Looking at the same time frame for this year, flights are over $500!
Google flights shows the price for "$170"ish but that's not taking into account:
-Reputable airlines (they're showing the price for "silver airways")
-Getting a direct flight
-Actually flying into MIA, not FLL
-Unreasonable arrival times (as in, not ubering around Miami at 1am)
I know prices are still up because of fuel and work shortages, but nearly 3x the price for a quick domestic trip?

It's not 3x the price as you have outlined. It's 3x the rice for a flight that works for you.

It's 3x the price from a comparable flight. To get roughly the same time, accomodations, etc. as I did last year on the same airline (American) it's jumped from $150 to $500.

Demand is high and most airlines are still dealing with pilot shortages so they have to put their capacity where it makes the most sense.
Also, without knowing dates, it's even harder to say as there could be events or other factors (i.e. Spring Break) that are having an impact as well.

That's what I figured. Spring break is a factor but again, it's the same date range as the previous trip so I was wondering what changed.
I'm mostly just butthurt

170 flight was probably spirit, frontier or some other trashy brand.
Southwest is cheapest you’d get for that route.

Close. JetBlue and Silver are the lowest but that's assuming you actually get there
I'll keep an eye on southwest

I've been seeing prices close to that into MCO, FLL and MIA for quite a while now. There have been rare finds at lower fares but normally sell out pretty quick.

I may be off timing wise, but inflation didn't start picking up until later in 2021 and into 2022. If you booked your previous flight far out enough (early 2021 to mid 2021), it may not have been priced in yet. Now all those cost pressures (and demand) are definitely priced in.

Yeah AA used to have really cheap fares on that route but I haven't seen any for awhile. We flew SWA last time.
