Heart of Dixie. I have no want to visit a country where I am told it's perfectly safe as long as you stay on the resort grounds. That may be perfectly fine for a lot of people, but not for me. I'd rather visit several Carribean Islands. Hell, I have no desire to go to Alabama and FL panhandle beaches. Way too many people.
Is this a weird "I'm an ignorant redneck" brag?

This is really not true.
Several of my friends have made trips to Mexico over the past three or four months and are planning to go again this summer.
As others have noted, they think the place is safer than even before Covid and the locals treated them well.

I tend to stay away from places where there is a good chance of being kidnapped, murdered, or catching COVID.
Where's the fun in that? But seriously, 90% of Mexico does not fall into those categories.

In a typical year we go to Mexico multiple times. We have never had an issue. The only reason I don't go in the summer is because it's hot as frick.
The summer is a great time to go to Mexico City, precisely because it's cool.

Yeah, that's just not where I generally go.

Went this spring. It was great and at no point felt in danger. People were amazing. Even took public transportation to some local spots. Your friend either doesn't exist or is FOS

It's like traveling to most places. If you act a fool or are looking for trouble it will find you. For the vast majority of visitors it's no sweat.

I don't know, but the OP's friend certainly was.

Was there in December, going on again next Friday and again over the 4th.

For those that have been how big of a hassle is it to get the covid test before returning?
The only thing that keeps me from going, other than having to wear a mask for that long of a flight, is having to deal with getting a test. Or getting involved in some test shakedown.

Driving to Rocky Point, Mexico with a group of girlfriends next weekend. Know many that go there on a regular basis and they have had no issues.

They'll come to your room at the resort and do it.

It's like a 2.5 hour flight

Mexico was more prepared for the testing than probably any other country. Almost anywhere you would stay will include testing.

The resorts don't want a positive test. That's a much bigger hassle for them. If anything you should be concerned about them not actually testing it and just giving you a negative to get you out of there.

Actually, they do. For mexico they break it down by state.

We're taking the kids to Tulum in July. My wife is just worried about having to quarantine before we can leave to come back.

You can stay at a nice all inclusive resort in Cabo for almost the same price as staying at crowded arse Orange Beach or Destin. I’m picking Cabo every time.
Yep. I have friends that vacation in Destin every year and had never considered Mexico. When I told them what it cost including flights, it was almost exactly the same. And we were staying at higher end all inclusives. (If there is such a thing)
