Best Christmas Town in USA

Topic came up tonight with the wife. We’d like a small town Christmas experience. Preferably a small town with some snow. Google says Branson, MO or Taos, NM. I know Natchez and Dahlonega are the southern options, but we want the cold, snowy experience.

Search this topic on Youtube. Tons of info there.
We spent a few days in Jackson Hole last December and loved it.

The area surrounding it is wonderful, but I found the town itself incredibly kitschy.

Breckenridge or Telluride.

I have to think Leavenworth is pretty easily the most-desired "small town" to visit around Christmas.

LOL! I think you're missing the point. That place is now on my bucket list. If I can't do a European Christmas market...then it's Leavenworth.

You'll find once is enough.
I'm 3 hours away....and once was enough.
The surrounding area in the summer is the tits though.

Once again...that's the whole point. If you're looking for the perfect Christmas town, you're not really planning on doing surrounding area stuff. It's whole entire reason for being is to enjoy that magical feeling of being in a Hallmark movie. Obviously, that means nothing to you, but a ton of women and kids would love it.
You're not the target market.

All I'm saying is I wouldn't plan a trip across state-lines for the town itself.
The town itself is fun for about 1 day (it's honestly half cheap gift shops), after that the Hallmark feeling wears off. I would however use Leavenworth to do Christmas/Winter activities in the surrounding area. For example we did horse drawn sleigh rides, snowmobiling, etc. which were really fun.

Trust me. You should look into other things to do.
The taprooms and a cheese shop was the highlight for me. And I could get any of those cheeses in Olympia or Tacoma on my drive there at a cheaper price
After so many crappy tourist shops and all the damn kids around I had fun wheeling in an empty school lot and drinking beer while the dogs ran and played.

You're right. And most men wouldn't last a full day. It's not big enough or really interesting enough to do so. If traveling with one I'd look into other things to do in Leavenworth.

We spent last Christmas in Leavenworth for the exact reasons you mention and it was wonderful.
Walk around at night, enjoy the lights, go on a sleigh ride, hit up the winery, and enjoy the surrounding area scenery. Drive to Stevens Pass for amazing scenery or go skiing/snowboarding if that’s your thing.
I am not into kitschy stuff usually, but it was great for Christmas.

It was designed to be a bit over the top and it seems to work for the target audience.
Its not some place I would spend weeks at, but a few days is pretty relaxing and peaceful.
