That's what we thought too but leave it to Disney to make it shittier than what it needs to be:

quote:

Paid Lightning Lane offerings like Rise open for purchase on the My Disney Experience app at 7:00am each morning, but only initially to guests staying in select on-property and partner hotels. Those include: all Disney-owned hotels, Shades of Green, and the Walt Disney World Swan, Swan Reserve, and Dolphin.

The Disney Resorts eligible for early entry, aka Magic hours:
quote:

These hotels are not identical to the list of hotels that are eligible to book paid Lightning Lane at 7:00am, which can get confusing. The hotels that are eligible for early theme park entry are a larger list and include: all Disney-owned hotels, Shades of Green, and the Walt Disney World Swan, Swan Reserve, and Dolphin PLUS B Resort & Spa Lake Buena Vista, DoubleTree Suites by Hilton Orlando, Hilton Orlando Buena Vista Palace, Hilton Orlando Lake Buena Vista, Holiday Inn Orlando, Wyndham Garden Lake Buena Vista, Wyndham Lake Buena Vista, Four Seasons Resort Orlando, Signia by Hilton Orlando Bonnet Creek, and Waldorf Astoria Orlando.

We're staying at the Waldorf. As best I can tell, anyone that purchases the Genie+ can book those at 7am the day of but I haven't found anything definitive on that.

Good gosh glad my kids aged out of Disney when they did.

$100 for four days for FL residents was the bomb

My wife is a huge Disney fan. We take 1 trip to Disney and 1 trip somewhere else yearly. My daughter is super into Disney as well. She does Disney travel agent stuff as a side gig/hobby.

My daughter is having a heck of a time trying to explain all the Genie+ stuff to her clients.

I agree. Disney took something relatively straightforward (paper fast passes) and made it into a crowd control system with fast pass +. Now, this Genie business is even more controlling and vastly more confusing.

This is corect...G+ can be purchased by anyone at 12:01 am BUT you can only book your first G+ selection at 7:00am, resort guest or not

Now, the Individual Lightning Lanes are where it gets different. Resort (and partner hotel) guests can book those at 7am as well but non resort guests have to wait until 9am

Each park only has two rides on the Individual LL's and you can't buy Individual LL's more than once/day/ride/guest. So you couldn't ride Rise of Resistance multiple times in one day unless you stand in the stand-by line. But the Individual LL's do sell out and if you're not staying at a select hotel, there's a good chance they'll all be gone before you have a chance to purchase them.

This is all based on info I've gathered from the internet so TIFWIW.

So confusing
I don't need inconveniences like that on vacation
Most people are spontaneous
Paying that kind of money for Disney I would hope I would have access to every ride without participating in this system

We just returned after a week there and the whole Genie +/LL system makes Disney way more stressful than it already is. I hated it and wish they would bring back the old FastPass system.
On a better note, you can use Disney gift cards to pay for all of this within the app. Thankfully we loaded up on gift cards before we left.

I wish they eliminated it altogether. The best thing to happen to WDW was in the months post COVID when the only front of the line access they had was VIP tours, child swap and disability access. Most of the capacity at WDW attractions can handle so many more people per hour than other parks but the standby lines always get jacked up with FP, FP+, G+ and Individual Lightning Lanes

The cheap arse in me has a hard time paying per ride. I don't like this model at all and what it opens for future possibilities.

I get ya..it sucks but we basically eliminated all table service dining to subsidize G+ and a couple of ILL's.

The only table service we're doing next month is Cali Grill and even alot of that is to skip the crowds to view the fireworks at night

This has made planning much more difficult as you cant book more than one at a time. With FP+ I had our day planned. Standby at rope drop, then 1st FP, standby #2, then FP #2, Standby #3, followed by FP #3 and then possibly standby #4 or 4th FP.

We could hit up 6-8 rides and be done by 2:00, sometimes earlier. I also worked in reverse if we wanted to start the day in late evening.

Now we would have to spend the entire day in the park to achieve that. Might as well pay for a private tour and get it all 4 parks done in a day.

All reservations will be day of. You can make one reservation at a time, starting at 7 am park time. When you have completed that ride/attraction, you can then pick the next one, throughout the day.

this is so stupid.
this is how it worked at the water park at Universal's Volcano Bay. You go and sign up to ride "Ride A" and it's a 45 minute wait. So you have nothing to do for 45 minutes, then you go get in line when it says you can and wait 10 minutes to ride Ride A. You get off Ride A, and then decide you want to ride Ride B. It's a 75 minute wait. Now you have nothing to do for 75 minutes, and you can't go on any rides inbetween there, even if you walk by Ride C and the wait is 10 minutes, b/c if you want to go on Ride C with a 10 minute wait, you get knocked off Ride B wait list.
So fricking stupid.
all they are making you do now is wait outside the lines so you go buy shite b/c your kid is aggravating the shite out of you to go get some food or this or that, instead of walking through a line watching old Mickey Mouse cartoons, or going through a scenery filled line that may be boring, but it's at least something to look at while you wait, but they can't make money off of you while you wait in lines for an hour.

Glad my kids are getting older and we don't have to go back to that retardedly expensive overcrowded park. You can go on a nice European vacation for what it cost to go to DisneyWorld.

You can also go to Gulf Shores for what it costs to go to Europe but going to Disney World doesnt HAVE to be expensive.

If you stay off site, mostly dine off site, drive, etc you can make it really really affordable. Right now, a 5 day park hopper is about $550 and you can easily make that last a week with two non park days and fill those days with tons of activities that are either free or inexpensive.

The problem people run into is trying to do what everyone else does, even though its shite they probably won't like, then they overpay for shite they probably shouldn't have done in the first place (character breakfasts, staying at art of animation, a table service on site every day, etc).

Ok. So you just spent $3K on park tickets and a hotel for a family of 4, and you haven't gotten there or eaten anything.

I know you can make it cheap, i do it all the time for every vacation, but even trying to make it cheap, it's still extremely over priced.

Being overpriced is personal value. Saying you can go to Europe for cheaper than Disney means you’re doing it wrong. There’s a difference.

No, Disney is not cheap but it doesn’t have to be as expensive as too many people make it. They overspend because they feel they have to. It’s smart on disneys part.

This is why I hate Disney. Far too complicated and exhausting. Don’t get how some people do this every year with children. I’m a beach guy.

Don't see why I would ever go. I went mmwhen my aunt lived in Clearwater, but I was also a kid then and not footing the bills.

Now? It sounds like my options are either pony up out the yinyang to actually ride a decent amount of the rides, or be cheap and stand around all day and get a handful.

Think I'll stick to hitting Cedar Point

I dont think this is how the lightning lane/genie+ works. My understanding is that with Genie+, you can make unlimited lightning lane reservations, but you can only hold 1 reservation at a time. So if you get to Magic Kingdom at rope drop and make a reservation for Space Mountain at 9:30, you can still ride rides between 8am and your 9:30 reservation, and as soon as you scan your band for your lightning lane reservation, you are free to make another.
