Other than the parks... how is the dance team nationals experience?

The event was very simple and clean, perform and wait to see if you advance, they show up perform, and leave. I guess due to Covid, they waited via text to see if they advanced. ESPN WWOS is cool. We had no problem with it through UDA. They took care of the girls. They had late night extra times at HS friday night and MK last night.
One down thing, the girls could not get access to using the Lightning Lane FP for the pay for premium rides. I had to purchase Genie+ for my daughter each day for fast passes for the rest of the rides. I’m not sure if this was for all the girls, or it was the package our Coach picked, with different tier packages (I don’t know). A few moms said the late night at MK two years ago was awesome (no UDA last year), they road all the rides several times each (it was a partial park party, Space Mtn, 7 Dwarves, and a few other rides only available). I don’t know if they just had a ton more people, but last night, those girls were only able to ride each ride once, if they were lucky. The exclusive late night last night was from 10pm -1am.
I rode Space Mtn with a 45 min wait last night, but we decided to just shop the rest of the night, we had been going all day since rope drop.

staying anywhere else and hitting a pool or something else and then going to epcot or a park closing show is just not realistic for 99% of people.

Sure it is. Just because it's something someone is not familiar with doesnt mean it doesnt exist.

Every day, for every person, no...not at all. And who the hell takes a shower after swimming to go to a theme park?

But, it was a reality for us (staying at Boardwalk) this trip (and Caribbean Beach in the summer) and is certainly possible for the majority of days at alot of resorts. I know you enjoy staying offsite so no..it won't apply to you but with the addition of the skyliner taking extended mid day breaks are a real reality. What is also a reality is people feel as if they don't maximize the value of their ticket if they go back to the resort...."I paid $150 for my kids to swim in a pool...blah blah blah"

Between Disney transportation/busses, Skyliner, rideshare, walking from some resorts etc there are ways to make it happen BUT what people can't do is stay at Port Orleans, make their first Genie + reservation walking out of the room as they walk to the bus stop at 8:50am for a 9am opening then say it's impossible to be done.

One thing I forgot to mention about WDW, they are very pro-masks, with dumb arse rules. They have mask nazis everywhere.
You must wear a mask (correctly, they will tell you to pull your mask up) anytime you are indoors. We waited 50 mins for a ride. The first 25 mins of the wait wound back and forth outside, so we didn’t have to wear a mask. Once the line entered the building, you had to mask up. It makes no sense. We rode the new Skyliner several times (which we liked a lot). Even though it was just my family in the car, they make you put your mask on (of course we take them down as soon as we launch).
Now, we did like the new Skyliner system. I hope they complete it to all parks. It was nice having a direct link from Epcot to Hollywood Studios. Now the wait line at the resort for the Skyliner in the morning was a mile long, but we always Uber to the parks in the morning.

We stayed at Pop Century, one of the resorts that has Skyliner. Saturday, we left HS around 3:30, was back in the room before 4, took an hour nap, and was back at HS before 5:30.
Biggest thing about WDW is time management, as you know. If you don’t plan your day correctly, you will not have the best WDW experience.

Cool. How did they do?

This is our school's first time going to cheer nationals at Disney. They are competing in two categories. Not enough teams in their categories for prelims... so Friday is an open day, they are practicing in the morn and in parks rest of day. They compete in the semis Sat night for both categories. 14 teams in one and 7 advance, 16 teams in the other and 9 advance. Supposedly they go to a stadium to find out if they advance? Championship on Sunday if they make it. Sunday night yeah they have some thing where they rented out all of MK.

The mask rules are completely stupid. I was hoping they would have done away between when I booked and when my trip came but nope.

Lines that go in and outside masks required/not, you're standing next to the same people the whole time! Also very arbitrary what they call "indoors" or not.

I mainly cared if they made my 3 and 2 year old wear masks and that was random. Most times no problem - never asked 2 year old to wear but 3 year old occasionally. Mostly in Magic Kingdom those fun suckers.

Seeing this thread reminds me that I need to up my Xanax prescription.

I just read this thread out of curiosity, and I have no idea what the majority of terms being thrown around even mean. Rope drop.. Genie.. I am sure overall it ends up a fun time, but man it would be a lot to absorb and try to plan if you've never been.

Rope drop is when the park opens, they literally drop a rope that is across the walkway.
Genie+ is the new fast pass system.
Like I said earlier in this thread, everyone should go at least twice, because your second visit is more relaxing because you know how to do it.

I'll never get over hearing dudes talking about strategies for attending a theme park like it's a raid in Kunar Province

Most of them don't even have to stand in line. Why is it that they don't have to wait and everyone else does?
Where is the equity in that?

Hilarious. Dramatic much? We went with my son’s friend who has brittle bone syndrome and is in a wheelchair until his mother can transfer him to the ride. Because you don’t qualify does not make it a fraud. Claim your clear diagnosis of insanity and I’m sure they will allow it.

They have cracked down on the pass system substantially. They have to have an in person interview and limit the pass to 6 in the party. My friend had to wait for hours on a video chat so she could speak with a cast member.

We also booked Genie+ the first 3 days, but it was unnecessary with the pass. Tried to get Slinky Dog with individual lightning lane and it was gone by 7:01am. People will not be happy once the crowds really pick up. The $30 for my son and I at HS was totally not worth it.

6!? For Christ’s sake. Why should six people get to skip a line?

I’m guessing it’s so a typical sized family can join. It used to be 10, so 6 is definitely more reasonable. In this case, I know my son’s friend wouldn’t have had any fun just riding the rides with his mom. Having a friend to experience it with definitely made it more fun for him.

We went the day after Xmas.
Stayed offsite since all Disney hotels were sold out.
That was fine.

The genie is not good.......all the rides were booked by 701am and the pay rides were gone too.

Me and my kids are pros so we knew how to do the parks....but it was still frustrating. Normally we ride Aerosmith/ Haunted Mansion / Space Mountain over and over but only got 1 time this week.

Oh and TONS of rides were closed. NOT COOL.
