We're looking for recommendations for a vacation spot on the east coast for a week in Summer 2024. Looking to get a condo or VRBO directly on the beach or close enough to from the room and a boardwalk distance. Think like Outer Banks or Myrtle Beach. We have two seven year olds, so it should be a place where there is enough kid stuff to keep them busy.

Any recommendations from the experts? I'd say from Georgia to virginia.

We have been to Hilton Head a few times. Highly recommend, plenty to do for family with young kids.

We just stayed in Crescent Beach recently. Beach and water are beautiful and zero crowds. Good restaurants in the area, and only a 15-20 min drive to St. Augustine if you're looking for other things to do.

Jekyll Island in Georgia. There is a sea turtle center on the island that takes in sick and injured turtles that the kids might like. There is also a water park on the island, and I think a gator experience as well.

The area around Charleston, SC. Isle of Palms is a great beach with condos right on the beach (check Island Realty for their selection). The Charleston area has tons of stuff to keep kids entertained. At that age I loved going on the USS Yorktown and USS Laffy at Patriots Point. Who am I kidding, I still love going on them at my age. There is an aquarium in downtown Charleston. The nature tram and nature boat tours at Magnolia Plantation will let them see a ton of gators, and there is a petting zoo there as well.

Myrtle Beach has a shitload of putt putt places.

Wrightsville Beach outside of Wilmington, NC. You have the USS North Carolina in Wilmington.

We enjoyed Wrightsville Beach as water was very blue l, great beach.

However, Charleston > Wilmington so South Carolina has the edge.

Not in your target area, exactly, but Cape Canaveral has good beaches and plenty of kids activities. Give them surfing lessons at Cocoa Beach and take them to the Space Center.

I’m not an Outer Banks fan because IMO theres not much there. For younger kids I would think Ocean City, MD.

The OBX is fine if you mostly just want to go to the beach and want to see some historical sights, lighthouses and museums. There are tours to see the wild horses on the north end past Corolla and you could fish.

Myrtle Beach (been there many times, mostly in the off season) and Ocean City, MD (been there only once) have more of the type of activities 7 year olds would like IMO. MB has many putt putt places, an alligator farm, an amusement park, a big ferris wheel, touristy stuff like Ripley's Believe it or Not, boat ride in the swamp (at Brookgreen Gardens which is near Murrell's Inlet) - things like that. OC reminded me of MB but I don't know what all they have.

Some say MB is trashy which I guess they mean it is touristy and it is that but there is a wide range of accommodations from "low rent" (won't be cheap in the summer though) to high end. I don't know about condos or VRBOs - we usually stay in a Hampton Inn that's on the beach.

If you're from Indiana and choose Myrtle Beach, I pity you. MB is Panama City w/out the nice beach.

OBX is jam-packed full of everyone from Metro DC, horrible traffic, and crappy beaches (horrible for little kids- the drop off is serious).

Look for south of MB... Closer to Charleston.

I say this as a NC'er who visits all these locations (except OBX- If I'm gonna drive 6+ hrs to the beach, it's gonna be in the Gulf).
