Hochatown,/Broken Bow OK. Just how good is it?

I’ve never been, but plan going in the very near future.
I keep hearing it could be the next HUGE spot in the south for vacations. Just interested in TDs take.

It makes me chuckle that Broken Bow is becoming a destination. Its only a couple of hours from me and its an OK close by weekend getaway but nothing special.

I keep hearing the proximity to Dallas/Ft.Worth Tyler, Shreveport makes it an ideal spot for short term rentals. It looks lovely, but the real estate prices are through the roof. Supposed to get a casino in a year or two to bump tourism too.

Yea, I'm in Dallas, but it seems people are driving from much further away to go there now.
ETA: If prices are high in Broken Bow, I would look at Lake Eufala.

I’d like to find someplace close to N La to invest in VRBO and Hochatown looks great. Close to home, close to metropolitan areas, but seeing a portable building listed for sale for $450,000 screams over the top and ready for a serious correction.
I would think a lot of the vacationers from further away would choose the Rockies and go to Vail, Pagosa Springs, Taos, NM. Maybe I’m missing it, but Hochatown just seems like a local draw.

Maybe it’s just social media but I feel like everyone just found out about broken bow and are flocking there now like it’s the new Destin.

We have many friends that have been going for years and they all say it keeps getting worse and worse
Last week my buddy said he’s done going there and has been going for 10 years. He said the traffic is unbearable and every place that serves food is an hour+ wait.
Plus it’s still hot as shite there. If I’m getting away to camp I want to be in the mountains or someone cooler. It’s been in the 100s there all month.

It's ridiculous. I've been before and the cabin we stayed in was like $500/night. I've gotten nice airbnbs less than a mile from the River in Austin and downtown New Orleans for less.
It is nice, don't get me wrong, but it's priced like your at some awesome spot and they have like a piggly wiggly and BBQ joint in town.

Broken Bow is for suburban white women’s girls trips, families and wal mart people. It’s crowded and super hokey.

as I’ve gotten older (and have more travel options) I am less and less interested in vacationing among the Walmart crowd. If that sounds pretentious so be it.
I’m in telluride now and while ridiculously expensive, everyone here is thin, athletic, happy, healthy and easy on the eyes.
Makes a world of difference when trying to recreate

I went for a bachelor party in March and we had a fantastic time. We only left the house to get more beer.
We are planning on adding it to the fantasy football draft pool of destinations.
ETA: it is ‘faux’ outdoors. All of the cabins I saw were right off of the main road and all were massive.
I live in DFW and so did most of the baws I went with so it was definitely a close getaway from the city.

Hot Springs seems to be mostly older folks but lake houses on lake Hamilton are cheaper than Oklahoma cabins in the woods. Some by almost half.

You don't have to live around them. Its easy to breeze in and hang around for a few days. To actually live under their thumb is another.

Its definitely blowing up the last 5 years or so. They are building cabins everywhere. Some are ridiculously overpriced for the area.
Its only 2.5 hours from us, so it makes for a nice long weekend trip with the kids. We go at least once a year for that reason.
Hochatown hasn't really caught up to its popularity quite yet, as there isn't that much to do.
We spend most of our time on the lake or the river and the rest at our cabin.

Was there this past weekend. The only grocery store sucks. There's a 2 lane road through Hochatown that's a nightmare. You could be nearly a mile deep at the traffic lights if you're there at a rush hour time which is most weekends esp in the summer. The restaurants also suck. Tourist traps mostly. The locals you'll come across getting gas or at the convenience store seem to despise tourists which I kinda get. The ones who work at tourist spots know where their bread is buttered at least.
All of that said, we had a great time. Only left our cabin to go to the lake, zipline or kayak...plus beer runs. We brought with us everything we thought we'd possibly need. It's a beautiful part of the country.
From a host standpoint the cabins are large so lots of heads & beds. Our cabin slept 19, rented for $1200/night and the owner claimed to have it rented for 250 nights a year. It's a long season which is obviously great. Ground has been broken on the casino project.

It was great 20 years ago when it was just locals and we Northeast Texans. They never invested in infrastructure but they keep building cabins and now a resort casino. Bubble has to pop soon.

Broken Bow was fine but Lake Ouachita is way better.
