I have family in KC and been there probably 20 times in my life. Still feel like I'm missing some things, however.
Have tickets to six Royals games, plus one for the AAA Omaha Stormchasers, so loading up on the Great American pastime.
Chiefs are in town that weekend, but can't make that one.
What other sights do you suggest?
Must-eat restaurants or food trucks?
Local eats and activities just outside of town would be fine as well.

The Peanut…original location on Main is an old school, dive bar experience. Cold beer and great full-sized wings. It’s Kansas City’s version of Buffalo’s Anchor Bar.
Oklahoma Joe’s in Overland Park is worth a drive.
I lived in Missouri for 5 yrs and have been several times, but we stayed mostly around The CC Plaza,so can’t help much beyond those places.
I love Kansas City and think it’s very underrated.

I was there about a month ago. Get some barbecue at Jack Stack. Very underrated.

I drove through Kansas City for work and admittedly was overwhelmingly surprised how beautiful that city is. Was there in the springtime, the city was very clean, flowers everywhere, folks outdoors eating. It was awesome.
It was also 2018. Would go back if given the chance.

Westport Flea Market Bar and Grill for one of the best hamburgers you will ever have!

Garozzo's Italian just north of Downtown is fantastic.
Rye in the Plaza or the one on 435 in Leawood, if you're in that area, is a great restaurant.
If you are over in Lee's Summit, Neighborhood Cafe is a great breaksfast spot.

They renamed it something like KC Joe's. Not sure why but it was trademark or license issue.
Otherwise, for the OP -
Jack Stack at the freight house
Osteria Il Centro
Papa Bob's in Bonner Springs (I think they closed)
go to a KU basketball game if you can get tickets
