3 couples, early 60’s. Looking September 2025. Would like to be on or extremely near lake and close to activities, restaurants, bars etc.
Guys will probably play a round of golf one day and we probably would like to rent a boat another day. Other than that, sightseeing followed by drinks and food. Will probably stay at an Airbnb.
Is South Lake Tahoe the answer for what I just described. TIA.

I'd look for an Airbnb in Zephyr Cove, NV. Close to the water and golf course and a short drive to the casinos at the state line.

I will look into that.
We would fly into Reno on a Wednesday and drive to our Airbnb. Stay there till Sunday and drive to Reno to watch football and hit casinos.
Fly out Monday morning back to Maryland
It would be nice to be able to walk to shops, bars and restaurants. Driving every time we need to go somewhere just isn’t ideal.

My wife and I stayed at a Ritz near the lake a couple of years ago. It was a great resort hotel in the middle of Northstar Ski Mountain. It is called Ritz Carlton Lake Tahoe. The lake is close but we never went. We spent time in the town of Truckee which had good shopping and several great restaurants

I'd probably skip the casinos. They're pretty shitty over there

South Lake Tahoe has a lot to do. We stayed at The Landing which is on the lake with a beach across the small street. It’s a pay beach but you are literally on the State Line and walkable to Heavenly and most restaurants around that area. They have a free shuttle as well. Near boat launches, e bike tours, and the golf course where’re they play the celebrity tournament every year.

Hundo percent North Lake Tahoe. That said, the Eagle Lake hike on the CA side of South Lake Tahoe is the best thing y’all will do. Gotta scramble up the crags behind it.

I just spent a week at a friend's home on the lake in Crystal Bay in N Lake Tahoe. The north side of the lake is far less developed than the south, particularly the northeast part of the lake. There's a Hyatt up there, on the water on Lakeshore drive (aka billionaire's row). All the things you mentioned are available up there, including some small casinos. South Lake Tahoe is where the larger casinos are and that area is far more developed. Might be more convenient down there, but I think the north part of the lake is far more beautiful and relaxing. September is probably the best month to visit as all the summer folks have gone and it's mostly locals, but the weather is still really nice. Have fun!

Thank you for all the replies. I really hope we do the trip.
The casinos are not a big deal at all.
Eat, drink and explore.
The tough part is getting there and back from BWI. Limited flights and NO direct flights.

Be sure to check out Secret Cove Beach on the east side of the lake about midway point of the lake. Parking sucks and it's a hike to the beach, but it's one of the few free beaches and it has great sights.

I am making lists.
I’m fortunate enough to be retired and I actually like putting this stuff together.
If I worked as hard and was as organized, in school, I would have done much better than I did.
Nothing I can do about that now
