Where are you? I’m in Bryson. He likely didn’t bother to hike at all with the rain we had. Supposed to get into the 20’s tonight.
If I had to guess, I’d wager he’s somewhere just past Blood Mountain.

Yes, but most people don’t stop in Franklin. They go up and over Standing Indian into the gorge and the NOC.
The section from Blood Mountain to the NOC can be brutal.

I don't know what it is about standing Indian, bears and myself, but I see one almost every everytime. Did unicoi to Albert mt last fall. Saw bears before the shelter. Heard them all night and saw one again in the morning leaving.

There is a major problem with people at that campground feeding bears that may have contributed to this. They hang around constantly.

I used too see them on Blood a good bit but day hiker crowds have gotten crazy. On summer hikes seems like theres always timber rattlers lurking on the rocks at the AT/Freeman Trail Junction though.

I worry about those guys more than I do bears.
I’m getting a little worried about DoUrden. Where is our champion?

I’ve been working my way through the Georgia 4000 Challenge and will probably hang it up for a few months. Don’t wanna be that dude who steps on a rattler bushwhacking through rhododendron

Parts of VA and PA you see rattlers any day it’s sunny. You always hear them. Just stop and they will slither away. Super passive snakes.

I’m assuming that’s climb all the 4000’ peaks?
How many are there.

Good to know, it’s crazy how well they camouflage in leaf litter.
Yeah the Georgia AT Club put the list together, there’s 32 qualifying peaks. Half or more are off-trail slogs without much in the way of views but it’s a cool way to explore.

OP's trail name should be AWOL

At what point do we assemble a team of Travel Boarders to search and Rescue OP?

I remember I got to a shelter about 7 miles from NOC (best I can remember). It was pouring down rain and 4 people were sprawled out taking up the entire shelter. I went and setup my hammock. Evidently I did a poor job setting up my tarp and about 3am I work up and rain was running off my tarp right into my hammock. My sleeping bag was soaked. I packed up and hiked most of the 7 miles into the NOC in the dark.
PSA - I hardly ever stay in shelters and prefer the hammock, but that is one time I would have stayed in the shelter. I did ditch the tarp that came with the hammock and went with a larger size afterwards.

where should OP be by now if he left on 3/27?

11 days ago. Maybe two zeros so 9 days hiking. 8-15 miles a a day. 108 miles or so.
About 30 miles in NC. Winding stair gap is close by. Town of Franklin NC is close by. NOC is 30 more miles.
He could be way faster or way slower. Don’t know his speed.
Hopefully not injured which can happen easily in those mountains.

Hes two weeks out with no report. He may have taken it to the house. That early rain and cold may have broken him
I'm hoping our boy gives us a report soon
