Port A - What's it like?

We're going to be in Texas over the summer to visit some friends and they want to go while we're down. What's it like for those who have stayed? Dauphin Island?

Port A?
Port Arthur? Port Aransas?
These two are very different.
But either way, both much worse than Dauphin Island.

I went for July 4th one year, beach full of trashy people with their trucks on beach but was fun as hell.

Renting houses in Port A is spendy. My trailer is completely self-contained and off-grid, so we just parked it on the beach. $12 for a year pass and you can stay on the beach for 3 days at a time. You'll get drunks cruising their rented golf carts up and down the beach blasting their music all night, but that shouldn't be an issue if you're in a house.

Just went for a tournament last year. Think Grand Isle or Port Fourchon but the fishing isn't as good.
