My 78 year old MIL has never been farther than Biloxi and she wants to see the Smokies before she dies.

DW wants to take her next spring but I’m not sure about the weather.

What month is not too hot and not too cold?

And can anyone recommend some stuff she might enjoy doing there?

We went to Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge area the first week in June a couple years ago and the weather was awesome. High in lower 80's lows in the 60's. Heck, June down here in Louisiana is already in middle 90's.

Get a cabin where she can wake up and look west to see why they got their name.

Late May or early June would be ideal as far as weather goes. Late September and early October can be nice as well. Make sure to take an early morning or late afternoon drive through cades cove

Just a tip for traveling with the elders. If you don't belong to hotel loyalty programs, join some. When trouble strikes, and it will take her to a hotel restroom, not a truck stop. Even if the clerk raises an eyebrow, and that hasn't happened to me, have a twenty on hand for a tip.

Take her on a drive through the Roaring Fork Nature Trail. An awesome view of multiple waterfalls and frontier cabins, places you can stop and look around while still being able to drive the route, which makes it a lot easier on the elderly.

Fall is the perfect weather but spring is nice too. And there are plenty of things to do with elderly people. If you get tired of the traffic in Pigeon Forge then Townsend is a very short drive away and is very peaceful. Also, since seeing the Smokies is the main reason you are going I would definitely recommend getting a cabin. It’s beautiful up there.
