Why are you doing this? Not trying to be a jerk just don’t understand the purpose.

I've got a group of friends that just like to fly around for the sake of flying around. Combine that with a couple of expiring upgrade certificates and cheap airfares made this a no brainer to us for a weekend getaway.

Ahh. Cool. You and I are very different people. But enjoy the trip(s)! Safe travels.

If you think that's wild, you should go check out FlyerTalk.

I also have a travel website where I write about all of the trips as well.

I read years ago about a guy whose weekend passion was driving, not the destination, just the driving.
Put a million miles on a Volvo or Saab.
You two would get along.

Before airlines went to money spent vs. miles/segments I needed to do a mileage run to keep Diamond on Delta. Did the following over about 24 hours:

MSY-MEM-CVG-DTW-CLE-DTW-IAH-DTW-CLE-DTW-CVG-MEM-MSY.

What we have up in the air right now is determining how wild we want to get with our MXP-ARN routing. My personal favorite involves an 8 hour overnight in Serbia for $91 but that is still subject to change.

I'd love to help but I'm a lot more familiar with domestic US spots like mileage runs vs the international flights. I guess the first question would be are you trying to go with a high # of flights to see new airports or just find a cool spot with a <24 hr layover?

The only mileage run I did was on US Airways to get status with AA based on segments. MSY-DCA-CLT-RDU-PHL-BUF (overnight and see a sabres game), next day BUF-BOS-DCA-MSY. All in early december and all flights were on time or early, it was a christmas miracle

Flying when you have status is awesome, but even I wouldn't do this.

If you had 6-10 hours, I'd tell you to take the train from Milan Centrale to Lugano and spend a couple hours checking it out. Such a cool city.

I've got a question in return.

Wife and I are wanting to do a 3 day weekend out of ICT over Valentines Day. Thinking Florida Keys or Scottsdale. Maybe Costa Rica. Anywhere else you've been you'd suggest?

It took a good bit of research but this was when Delta was downsizing/eliminating CVG & MEM as hubs...so I was able to find that they were running a "same plane" MEM-CVG-DTW route in each direction to connect these hubs.

The overnight was at IAH with a same plane/crew late night to early morning back to DTW.

The CLE-DTW-CLE trips were icing on the cake as low cost 20 minute flights on the same plane.
