As outrageous as firing one of the only head coaches in America who can beat Saban without a new hire in place already?

I’d rather be a god in Lafayette than deal with the pressures of the Auburn job. He’d definitely live longer.

How outrageous? I’d do it. And at the same time making Alabama have to reshuffle things.

Alabama just replacing him with another top offensive mind and auburn goes all in on their 2nd or 3rd choice at HC? Saban would be grinning ear to ear

A boat load of cash eases that pressure quite a bit.

Good young coach but I'm not sure he's ready to butt heads with Saban. I think Auburn needs to go after a little older HC that has experience coaching in a major conference.

If he goes to Auburn, the money will change his life and his family's life for generations. I'd be happy for him but I'll be sad for us. There's not one bad word to say about Billy Napier the person for Cajuns fans. Sometimes I'd get a little frustrated with his playcalling, but he's incredible at halftime adjustments. He hires a great staff. He recruits great players who don't get in trouble. Just an A+ coach.

He handled all the social issues so well on top of everything else. He supported his players and local law enforcement and didn't have a single player speak out otherwise.

You know what all these coaches have in common? They are all insane competitors

None of these dudes are going “oh yeah I’m happy at my mid major here. I don’t want expectations or a shot at a championship or anything”

If they had that mindset, they wouldn’t be good coaches

And then get ready for another coaching search in 3 years.

Looks like this means Steve Sarkisian will be replacing Nick Saban when he retires.

Bama will have a big time search regardless and take big swings

They’ll make Dabo say no. And kick the tires on the other big fish. If it ends up being Sark then they would’ve been told no a few times

Glad to hear. He has a large group wanting him on our side.

If Napier is hired, is he being made to accept Steele as his DC?
If what has been posted is true-Steele angling for Gus’ job prior to and after firing- seems like built in distrust from the start.

Highly doubt Steele will be kept, especially if all the reports of him and Rodney Garner going behind Gus's back to undermine him in an attempt to get the head job.

Pretty sure Napier would try to bring Patrick Toney in as his DC if he gets the job

They'll make Dabo say no about 20 times and then offer him Governorship of Alabama and a lifetime contract

yeah sark's value is only gonna go up. it's not like bama will take a step back offensively. he can hold out for bama or just wait for the next big job to come along that's willing to pay. who would have thought 5 years ago he'd be in this situation.

I'm going to go out on a limb (not really) and say "outrageous" means he insisted on autonomy for hiring assistant coaches, and appropriate distance between certain boosters and the program. Don't think for a second that he's not going to insist on total control like Saban, so he can build his program without interference. He's seen how it works up close.

Napier might be too young to know better. He might not let them roam the sidelines during games like Chizik, but I'm not sure if he has the wisdom, and I know he doesn't have the clout yet to keep them from meddling where they shouldn't.

Napier is a great hire, and a great young coach, but eventually, he's going to get sabotaged internally.
