I think this is one of those announcing the obvious deals.

I haven’t seen anyone, outside of a few random journos, say he was ever considered—not because he isn’t a great coach, but because of his current situation.

Not as strong as Tuberville saying he'd have to be carried out of Ole Miss in a pine box.

He doesn't know how to negotiate.

Lanning and Oregon agreed to a six-year, $45 million contract extension in July that increased his salary from $4.7 million to $7 million this year, with $200,000 increases in each subsequent year.

Offer him Jimbo money and see what happens.

I don't think Lanning is the target for A&M. He's just the hot name that everyone assumed.

Lincoln Riley claimed he wasn't leaving OU until he basically hopped on the plane to LA

He has Oregon firmly at 3 in the new Big Ten and Michigan might fall soon. Why would he trade that for a comparatively harder gig with OU and Texas joining the SEC?

Every program gets turned down eventually. I don't get why some fans get embarrassed by it. In this case, you're trolling. A&M isn't interested in Lane and Dan is probably someone they're checking on but at best feelers were put out.

Lanning isn't going to take a giant step down from Oregon to go to the aggies.

He's probably a liberal and doesn't want to move to a state like Texas that is conservative. Oregon is a lib paradise.

You sure about that? Gerrymandering keeps Texas red.

I think Lanning will not accept an offer. I think he's sincere in what he said and he wants to raise his young family where he is. He's got values over money. I believe him.

Right, but Riley is a bitch. I actually believe Lanning, but we shall see.

Riley came out after the OU loss and said he wasn't taking the LSU job before they even asked. Only to proceed to go to USC.

Why leave a good thing, and a better program at the moment, to go to a place where the expectations will be through the roof?

Lanning has only been a head coach for less than two years.

Lanning was hired by Oregon because of his defensive focus which has been lacking at Oregon for a while now.

I think that the ONLY position that would draw his immediate interest would be if Alabama were to call him in for an interview. Other than that, I expect him to be at Oregon for at least another 7 years.

Do I detect that you are somehow equating the HC position in College Station with the HC position in Tuscaloosa?

Even at that juncture there was no equivalency to be had.
