There can only be so many blue bloods. You can just keep adding to the list.
Therefore you have to pass the current blue bloods with wins and NCs.
We need to pass uga, usc, and tenn in wins while winning a couple more NCs. That would change the conversation.

How about not wanting to be a blue blood? I want to be a purple blood.

LSU is a modern day blue blood but is considered new money.

Huh? LSU is a CFB blue blood. They have multiple championships under multiple coaches, recruit in the top five annually, and are usually preseason ranked accordingly.

If you count national titles won during the time that the vast majority of us have been alive, LSU has to be considered a blue blood. Only a very small handful of teams can top the number of national championships we have.
Multiple titles this century? Bama, LSU, Clemson, Florida, Ohio State, and arguably USC.
Going back into the late 1900s (1951-1999), you can add Miami, Texas, Nebraska, ND, and Oklahoma.
Those are your blue bloods. It gets expanded or narrowed by how many years are considered relevant.
That's about it, unless you want to go back to the leather helmet era.

Nebraska is a blue blood
Michigan is a blue blood
Texas is a questionable blue blood
Notre Dame is a blue blood
I’d rather be LSU than those blue bloods.

F*** blue bloods…we bleed purple and gold.

LSU is considered an elite program. Blue Blood is more subjective but they are debatably already a top ten all time program.
If people cared LSU could claim a couple championships from the 1900s and 1930s. It's cheap credibility Bama style. But making the point that LSU was probably the first Southern school to deserve a national championship is actually a reasonable claim. And relevant to being a blue blood for the Michigan and Notre Dame types who reference pre World War II football results.

I personally don’t give a frick about some “blue blood” status. LSU is a founding Member of the (undeniably) greatest conference in college football history.
Even the yanks at ESPN know as much. We didn’t hear it that much until this week with the Kelly hire and all the cultural-fit nonsense. I listen to a lot of ESPN radio. Even coach K said tonight on the radio, that the SEC was the best conference, and alluded to the fact that OU would be struggling to find a good coach that would want to lead the team knowing they were entering the SEC.
I actually felt bad for “Cowboy” (regular call-in and UT fan) when he called in to the show today. He sounded so defeated talking about Texas’ future in the SEC. He called his own team “the new Vandy”.

When the media stops narrating LSU in a negative light. I remember the ABC/ESPN panel talking up USC as the best team in the country after we had just won the BCS in Jan 04 and blue blood elitists giving USC an unwarranted “AP National Championship” in blatant opposition to the system CFB had in place. 07-08 was a 2 loss natty. 2011 cemented our program in Bamas shadow. And after a phenomenal season in 2019 the media spins it as a stroke of luck, not a top 5 program winning its 3rd title in 20 years. It’s pathetic, but the way things are and will be until LSU wins National Championships in Clemson or Bama like fashion.

Blue bloods: Bama, ND, Michigan, Ohio State, USC, OU, Texas?
Blue bloodish: LSU, Tennessee, Penn State
Next tier down: Miami, FSU, Florida, Georgia, Auburn

How many rings before LSU is considered a blue blood?
Blue is a primary color, and hence "basic". Nothing special about it.
Purple however, the color of royalty, is a blend of two or more primary colors (red & blue). So it isn't basic. Hence it is better.
frick a bunch of blue blood- we're Purple Blooded which is blue blood plus more.

You’re crazy as hell. Lsu ain’t in no same category as Tenn and Penn State. Lol

Oops, forgot Nebraska. They are still barely hanging on to blue blood status. But could say they're blue bloodish.

quote:blue bloodishness is about longevity as much as consistently and excellence. People have a hard time seeing Tennessee that way nowadays. I get that. But, keep in mind they haven't won an SEC title since 1998, yet are still in 2nd place behind Bama.

Here's a ranking I just found for reference. LINK
They put LSU and Miami in the top 10, just outside the "blue blood" 8 I mentioned. I think LSU clearly should be above Miami. Their program was pretty much non-existent prior to the 80s. This list at the link is inline with my list except for some reason they have Clem's son instead of Penn State. I'd put Clem's son in same next tier with Miami and Florida.
Bottom line, LSU is clearly the next in line outside those top 8. Eventually, we should just bump out Nebraska.

Should already be considered

The media determines blue bloods. Its all about promoting the teams they want to do well. Only if Saban was here would they consider LSU a blue blood.

Who cares about dynasties 80 years ago? How is LSU not mentioned in the same light as some of these programs that had their best years half a century ago? If BK gets a ring or two is LSU officially Blue Blood? Thought i posted this on tRant. My bad
Should be on tRant - but I think it’s like new money/ old money. No matter how much the new money has and accumulates, the old money people still stick their noses up at it.
I believe blue bloods pre 2000 have this mentality even if they have sucked for the past 20 years, i.e Oklahoma, Miami,… etc
