As someone who has consistently said he thought lane would stay at Ole Miss, that quote is meaningless.
He’d answer the exact same way if he truly want sure vs. had already decided to leave but still wanted to transition this for his players sake.

If he was staying, and it is known by the true insiders, LSU would announce a new hire before Lane announced. Would be able to use the "we had our guy all along" and not look spurned by Kiffin.

Realistically Ole Miss should let him coach the playoffs but I understand the situation they're in also. If they really wanted to keep him there that would be the best way to do it because he wins, somehow finds a way to a NC game, then realizes he can do everything he wants at Ole Miss. But, I understand why they'd tell him to take a hike.

He just completed the greatest regular season in Ole Miss history. That means something to him. He knows it means something to the players. The emotions show he is human and respects what a TEAM of men have accomplished together. Hard to walk away from that knowing there is more meat on the bone.
But the timing of things, of no fault of his own, necessitate a decision. Now. He's not conflicted, just sorry it has to be this way.
I'd be more concerned if he did not show emotion. He knows what he accomplished there. He also knows that the ceiling at LSU is unlimited.
