Call your shot. Do you predict that KW will win the Big 10, go .500 or better against Ohio State, or win a national championship while at Michigan?

Both he and Michigan have missed bowl games 4 times since 2005. Michigan has had 4 losing seasons and Kyle 3. This is just meaningless stats but I found it interesting.

As long as the money keeps coming in to the program I think Michigan will be fine. I don’t think Michigan believes that this is a ten year hire but rather a hire to stabilize the program and I don’t know how much better of a hire they could have made this late into the cycle.

Should have no bearing on if its a great hire. Its a good hire but was he anywhere near the list when the job became open?

Reminds me of when Peterson left Boise for Washington

I mean Petersen won the PAC 12 two times in six years. I know that isn’t anything spectacular but that’s exactly ‘terrible’.

You are probably looking too much into this. That player signed with a coach who likely won’t be there.

I get it "you sign with the school but not a coach"…. And with the portal this loss means nothing.

Great hire and yes he was mentioned as a target and better than any name they had on their target list the past two weeks

Damn, great hire, wish we could have gotten him.
I always loved how physical his teams were - especially fun when he would make USC look like soft little bitches.

I don't hate the hire. I think he was the best option available and will stabilize the program after the current mess. But will he be judged successful by the normal standards of a blue blood program? On the balance I will guess the answer is no.

I think he’s a very solid hire who should win 9-10 games a year with the potential to beat OSU and compete for B10 championships.

I don’t think he’s a home run hire in a cycle where the timing is better, but they were playing a game of coaching musical chairs after most of their competitors had already begun and finished their game weeks before so this was a solid hire and much better than hiring a former equity guy who decided to coach football as a retirement job while wearing no sleeves.

“Only on this board, just amongst LSU fans, is Kyle.fricking Whittingham considered a "bad" hire”

Exactly. Great coach with resources he’s never had could be scary. LSU fans are too busy celebrating hiring a child that when Saban was asked by Byrne what he thought about Kiffin when he retired said he didn’t need to be “within a thousand miles of Tuscaloosa” but should be fine for LSU when they asked. LSU fans think way more of themselves than others.

Not bad, just boring. And old. There were a record number of CFB job openings this year, how many were clamoring for Kyle Whittingham? Then the guy retired. And now Michigan hiring him is a coup? Come on.

He’s an 8-4 big 12 coach

So, Brian Kelly. Just older.

BK was a great hire on paper, but sounds like he lost his fire and had drinking issues apparently that led him astray.

That’s a risk that could happen with KW but if it doesn’t it’ll end up being a good hire

On paper it’s behind LK as the top hire and interchange with VT hiring Franklin for #2

Can't use the quote function but has insider info on Saban's thoughts lol

Yeah, it's bonkers. He has only been their head coach since Urban Meyer left for Florida. 20 years = stability. That's what Michigan needs right now.

Tunnel vision is what most suffer from. They want someone to hire BK to offset his buyout. No big program was going to hire him.
