quote:he did have a winning record, but only went tonight Atlanta once, during covid.
Dan Mullen had a winning record at Florida and went to seccg twice in four seasons
quote:
Dan's performance at MSU was similar to Lane's at OleMiss.
Not quite that similar
After 6 seasons Dan was 46-31 (22-26)/ overall 69-46 (33-39) with one 10 win season and one ny6 bowl appearance with zero ny6 wins and one losing season (in first 6 yrs but 2 overall)
where lane is currently 53-19 (30-17) with two ny6 bowl appearances, 1 Ny6 win, three 10+ win seasons (with an 11 win season), zero losing seasons (one .500 season his first year).
If lane wins one more game it’ll be 4 10+ seasons.
If anything lanes performance at ole Miss has more similarities to Dan’s performance at Florida than Dan’s performance at Miss state.
In 4 years at Florida Dan had a 10 win season, 11 win season, 8 win season, and 5 win season (in that order) with 2 ny6 wins and a ny6 loss and a 21-14 overall SEC record
Lanes first 4 years at ole miss he won 5 games, 10 games, 8 games, and 11 games with 1 ny6 win and 1 ny6 loss

How. He’s a multiple time failed head coach???
To be fair so was Lane before he became an OC for Saban. It’s not the most dissimilar career path out there.

Can you go buy some Yes shares on Kalshi?

Kiffin would be a moron to leave OM. Expectations are much lower, the fan base doesn’t call for his head if he doesn’t make the playoffs every year, and he makes absolute bank.

Did you see the Napier era?

Why are Florida’s mods and boosters so beaming with confidence that they get him? Even one of our guys (Preston) is “reporting” Lane will accept the Florida job if offered.

I remember LSU fans dancing in the streets over poaching Lincoln Riley from Oklahoma, only for Sexton to be using LSU as leverage for USC.
Maybe lane does to Florida, but that’s a laugh riot thinking it’s a done deal.

Absolutely
Ole Miss has been a middle of the road program since the 1960s. Expectations at UF are much higher and it’s not even close.
Quite frankly, I don’t even think Kiffin is that great of a coach. His teams have always had horrible defenses and he relies way too much on overpowered offenses to compensate for that. To win championships, you need a defense with a pulse. It’s why Kiffin has consistently struggled to make the playoffs. The playoffs have been in existence for 10 years and he has yet to make one.

It's certainly possible that Sexton has figured out LSU is the one of the 3 schools willing to break out into uncharted territory $-wise to land Lane. (Which is not very farfetched since LSU is trying to save face with their idiotic governor's antics.)
So, given that, best way to put LSU wallets in hyperdrive is for Sexton to use an unwitting pawn like Preston to leak that Florida is closing in.
At least that's how I'd play it.

funny Kingsburry was mentioned, he was one of my sleeper picks for LSU.

For sure, just noticed Twitter has become unreadable. All of my ole miss friends have convinced themselves LSU has absolutely no shot, but I get they have to tell themselves for mental health reasons
I personally have a difficult time seeing Lane do that to ole miss, but people get over things as time passes. Would elevate the rivalry nationally.

Me neither. Unless Drink really is plan B.

I mean.. they don't. No convincing necessary. It's simply a fact. One doesn't need to be convinced of facts. Facts simply... are.

You absolutely do not want to be the school the talk is right now in November from a Sexton client.
I'm convinced LSU is not seriously pursuing Kiffin though. The reasoning here is in LSU's searches the names thrown at the top are never guys they actually land or heavily go for. Riley in last search was planted by Armstrong when LSU had a deal in place for BK.
And I'll be honest here, when insiders are saying guys like Drink/Freeman are at the top if you strike on Kiffin something really sounds fishy there. I do not think LSU would seriously pursue either of these guys for a thousand reasons. Which makes Kiffin fishy to me too especially considering you're going right back to BK problems here by overpaying and potentially telling a coach it's okay for him to use LSU as his retirement to get lazy. Lane would be divorced again in 1 year at LSU.
How do you know a coach's motivation if you double his pay? What motivates him to press hard for a championship? Is his ego enough for him or does he just kick his legs back up on the table and say f it? He's not going to be sold on an incentive riddled contract. Why should he? The man has all the leverage. You guarantee me 15-20 million a year or I stay at Ole Miss with them matching close to it or the same.
