A few posts up I answered why Lane taking the LSU OC gig could be a quicker route to a P5 HC job than staying at Bama or going somewhere like San Jose St.

There is a case that can be made IMO plus it sounds like Saban is ready to part ways if what I'm reading is accurate.

it's going to be amazing to watch kiffin negotiate with LSU

Bama doesn't want him back and nobody can pay him the $1.5M he's making now

yet, we're going to pay him $2M b/c...Alleva

Alleva's the type to begin his negotiations with his top end bid.

It's possible that Kiffin sees LSU as a potential HC job if he secretly has no faith in O.

as it's been mentioned here...that'd be Kiffin pulling an Orgeron on Orgeron.

Baby shite compared to putting Briles on Campus.

Its bad when you have Sark, Kiffin, Briles, or Applewhite. And Sark would be the moral superior choice!

None of it is good, to be sure.

You can't just be idealistic and moral, you also have to be practical too.

For example- you say Sark is the best moral option... but he's an alcoholic and you're talking about bringing him to South Louisiana. He'd also be the one guy most likely to have a big relapse into his problem.

Briles- the worst baggage, but let's be objective and not apply judgement here: it appears he turned a blind eye to player transgressions at a university with a win-at-all-costs mentality, and when that blew up, he was scapegoated. Odds are that two things are true: first, he was under a mandate from the Powers That Be to get these athletes and leave them alone so they could win, and he just went along to keep his job. Secondly, you can bet he's the least likely to get involved in that stuff again, as it totally destroyed his career and life.

Kiffin- biggest knock is that he's an egotistical bastard who is loose as hell. Saban controls him, but will he revert?

a drunk can get equally drunk in any of the 50 states. We don't have the market cornered on drunks.

Yeah, he would be learning the hard way, at 1.5 million a year as an OC at one of the best schools in the land.

Ok, so it is true he condoned rape for personal glory and gain.

no, that isn't the biggest knock by far. Number one he is a cheater, number 2, he is morally bankrupt, number 3 he is a dirty recruiter

I keep seeing this said over and over. They don't have alcohol in Tuscaloosa? A drunk is gonna drink. It doesn't matter where they are.

Oh, I'm not disagreeing. I don't want Briles either.

I'm amazed at the idiots who can't or won't see the blight on our recruiting and program that would result from bringing that POS aboard.

Yes, LSU can/will pay a top-notch OC in the neighborhood of $2.0M plus. The selling point in hiring O was to get a HC at a lower $ so that LSU could attract and spend more on coordinators. LSU already has the highest paid assistants in the country, and hiring O freed up another $1-2M more per year for assistants.

So yes, LSU can afford to outpay anyone for quality OC/DC.

Arandas new deal is thought to be around $2M (although specifics havent been announced yet.) Your current OC is well thought of around here (and will probably be offered around $2M, although I think it would take less to get him here. LSU's competition for him will not be Bama, but rather a HC coaching gig somewhere.)

IMO, LSU is a better place for Kiffin to show he's ready to be a HC again than Bama because he won't be under Saban's umbrella. Saban doesn't let him talk to reporters, and I'm sure dictates how the offensive game plan is drawn up. LK can show he can be independent again, and not need that short leash that Saban has on him. That being said, I wouldn't be mad if we got Applewhite, Gilbert or Canada.
