I'm not ruling it out, he's definitely on the short list, but I just haven't heard the enthusiasm or a deal in movement or anything like that like there is with Chavis.

everyone I put in my sig usually no longer ends up being the hot name. I think its time to put chavis there

hey I'm not wild about Chavis either...I'm just reporting.

My latest update is it might be possible Orgeron could be trying to make a play at getting a raise at the saints.
May not be worth much, but Sean Payton was quoted this week as saying he expects Orgeron to be back with the Saints next year (of course it figures he would say this). He mentioned this as part of a larger question regarding his coaching staff for next year (with Marrone leaving etc).

Posted on 12/19/08 at 1:28 pm to belowpar

You think maybe Miles wants Walker but Walker is holding out for a HC gig (New Mexico is the only left that I heard him attached to), and Miles is pretty much like, I can't wait any longer?

Miles doesn't exactly move quickly on his coaching hires.

Chavis would be an improvement from what we have (though that's not saying much), and he would not be a bad hire. But it would certainly be a disappointing hire compared to some of the other names mentioned and even some of the available that people not mentioned.
Over the last 5 years, Chavis has been very inconsistent He averaged 35th overall in total defense with plenty of NFL talent to work with -contrary to the popular mantra around here that he had "no talent." Malleveto was 36th overall this year for comparison.

Not from what I've heard at all...All I've heard is that Miles wants Chavis

65th in scoring defense
81st in passing defense
...against a very weak out of conference schedule that should have skewed the statistics positively.
You are totally overstating how good Mallory's defense was. Anyone who watched this team saw how inept it was as a passing defense especially against good teams.
In other words, comparing Mallory's 36th ranked defense to Chavis' 35th ranked defense is bogus.

Well I think we are being fans about all this
Chavis is a proven top shelf DC
About 95% of the UT fans love him and call him "cheif"... after 16 years, I find that totally respectable
How many coaches have been around here that long, and we can say that? ZERO
We need Coach O, to make this work IMO, and stir things up real good on that side of the ball, and dominate recruiting
Chavis, O, and Willis seem to be a pretty good pick up
thoughts?

I was just hoping we'd step away from the soft zone, read and react, bend but don't break shite
