Chevis is a great coach. Tn was 2nd or 3rd in the SEC this year in D. .

What's wrong with getting a DC that wants a HC gig? Miles can use that as a major selling point to attract the best coordinators.

i agree with this philosophy.
One, you don't know how long the guy will stay or not stay. See charlie strong. Been at florida a while.
Second, if he is gone in two years, how do you not know a new up and coming d.c. will not emerge or a guy like randy shannon wont be available?
You get the best you can today, worry about tomorrow when tomorrow comes.

he had the number two defense in the SEC this year.

And the number four defense three years ago. Both of those teams had a lossing records as teams would run the clock out on them and stopped passing.

but to say he's falling behind is inaccurate.
He hasn't come up with a response to Florida's offense and don't tell me that he stopped them three years ago as they weren't the same team with Leak running the spread. (Oh yeah, Florida won 16-7 btw). Not saying anyone else has stopped Florida, but UT and Chavis haven't come up with the magic formula. He also hasn't beat Saban as Tenn forced only two punts last year in a 41-17 pounding and 3 punts this year.
Look at all the studs he had 10 years ago with Albert Haynesworth, Suan Ellis, John Henderson, Leonard Little, Al Wilson, Deon Grant, etc. And it probably didn't hurt that Peyton, Jamal Lewis and Travis Henry were on offense pounding the ball.
The soft coverage bothers me as well.
IMHO

We did a great job against the spread O in both 2005 and 2008, and a decent job in '07. There was an extreme talent mismatch in '07.
By the way... I think that you'll find most great defenses have great players.

If something happens and the deal with Orgeron falls through, then my guess for the backup is Coach Haley from the Chicago Bears as the D-Line Coach.

if chavis is the hire does that debunk the willis rumors since chavis is an LB guy? Hell I think that would also debunk the Raymond rumor since we'd definitely need an experienced secondary coach
