I can see how one can think that Coach Reine didn't have the qualifications but he did coach football at Walker high for close to a decade and was the interim head coach at one time. And even though it has nothing to do with football, he was the head softball coach at Walker for a while and brought them deep into the state tournament two or three times. Also, his welding program at Walker High has one several state championships. I guess what I am trying to say is why not give the man a shot because the rest of the hires have fallen extremely short and he has been successful at everything he has done.

I don't know the guy, he may be a great coach. I just was caught offguard by your "he's been successful everywhere he has been" comment. I'm not sure if he has ever been even a coordinator at the high school. If he's your guy, then so be it.

To answer your question about the last coach, I thought he would was going to do well as Walker as head coach, in fact I played under him and have a tremendous amount of respect for him but he is still not from the Walker community.

So you sound like the guys in Ann Arbor, "got to have a Michigan man".

Having a "Walker Guy" won't fix the problem

They need a program seller and get all of the athletes to play. Even doing this, they won't consistently win.

I agree with you lsustevel, Walker has talent walking around the campus but the coaches will not recruit the school. I graduated in 2006 and it was like this before I got there and it has been that way. If Walker wants to be successful, the coach no matter who he is has to recruit the school, involve the community and parents and be a charismatic guy. Maybe this new young coach can do that.

This is literally dumbfounding. David Simoneaux who is the OC for Central and one of the best younger (he's 30) coaches in the state got passed up for the OC who just went 0-10. It's literally amazing how little the administration cares about winning. I see there are a few Walker alums on here, but I feel bad for y'all. Very little chance for success

Dude thrashes on a PBS alum for one of his buddies. Lawley is the smartest football mind I've ever been around. GTFO.

I feel I can say this and hopefully it's not seen as racist because that's not the intention. Walker is too white to consistently win in 5A. The coaching is probably just a matter of difference 1-2 vs 3-5 wins per year. Talent wins a lot of ballgames.

I have watched John Curtis run the exact same play for 4 consecutive quarters and dominate a state championship game. There wasn't any fancy coaching going on in that game because it was straight dive plays in the A gap. They had way more talent.

Walker is not yet diversified enough to compete in 5A consistently. Walker has a small minority community that basically all live in one neighborhood. They are all from families that have lived in Walker for multiple generations. Until minorities start moving into Walker from other communities there will not be enough diversity to support a winning 5A program. They might have a good team or 2 every decade but that's about it.

Good Luck Brandon!

I think Simoneaux is smart enough to hold out for a better job

He's one of the best up and coming coaches in the state right now, he'll get some offers soon enough.

I would have never in a million years thought a walker wildcat coach thread would get this many posts on here.

Eta I graduated whs in 04 played for the last guy (sevario) played for Riene played for Guerin. I agree with what was said about recruiting the campus. I'll also add that I heard from admin Thay two things. The "good" athletes can't stay academically eligible, or If they sense the slightest bit of discipline they quit. Also ill agree That there are not nearly enough minorities to compete. We had maybe 4-5 on the team and the only good ones were Chris Hawkins and todrick Stevens. They are the only reason we won 4-5 games the years I played. It's said to say but walker may never be worth a shite at fb and I asked why it was acceptable and admin couldn't give me a straight answer.

Simoneaux definitely wanted it at first. He interviewed twice for it. The problem with walker is the fact they don't have a booster club. He would've taken a significant pay cut from offensive coordinator to head coach. On top of that, walker administration wanted to retain all of the coaching staff. If I'm taken over an 0-10 team, I want to bring a few of my own guys with me.

You clearly do not know my disdain for Simoneaux. It's well documented how he and I feel with regards to each other. But he's an excellent football coach. I don't see all the "school pride". I see a coach that shouldn't be the head coach at a 5A school right now. Hey, hope I'm wrong and they play great, I'm certainly not rooting against him. But c'mon dude, greatest football minds you've been around? Get out more

I'm around plenty of HS coaches, my dude. Talk to them on a daily basis. I stand by statement.

Lawley had one of the most prolific offenses in the state at Dunham in 2013, last year at Walker they produced a 3,200 yard passer and two 1,000 yard WRs.

He has a Bobby Petrino offensive philosophy with a lot of personnel groupings. Eleven separate players caught passes this season.

you claim me and Sim are friends? They were 0-10, how much of that was against backups? You will never convince someone who went 0-10 is the smartest offensive mind. Not to mention that in 2013 for Dunham, the HC got asked to leave after that season as well. So 2 years as OC, 2 coaching changes

So explain to me how Mandeville has been so successful in the 5A playoffs. Mandeville High may be the least "diverse" public school in the state.

Yet here he is, as a HC of a 5A at 27.

And there is a thread questioning it. Also documenting how much of a dumpster fire Walker High football is.
