Question about NIL

When I read that Quinn Ewers signed a 1.4 million dollar NIL deal at Ohio State, does he still collect that money and the money from his other deal at Texas?

Sure, let me just pull up the terms of that contract real quick. I'm sure it's public record.

If he kept up his end of the deal then yes. If the agreement was you sign these autographs and we pay you this money then he signs those autographs they have to pay him that money. The NIL deal is tied to the player’s name, image, and likeness. Has nothing to do with the school.

NIL is similar to Schrodinger's Cat.
Until you observe it, what it really is can not be measured, defined, and the possibilities of what it really is only a probability.

In Ewers case, this is true. However, I don't think that applies to all NIL deals. Each one would be an individual contract with specific stipulations. I can't see a Ford dealership continuing to pay a former Bama player NIL money if he transferred to Georgia. I'm certain there are clauses in those contracts for any local companies offering NIL deals to athletes.

The clauses can’t say anything about X player playing for Y school. At least they aren’t supposed to.
If I had to guess most of the deals are a flat rate for doing a certain thing to avoid the exact scenario you are talking about.

I also suspect that NIL deals have as much reality as NFL contracts when it comes to the difference between the reported income and the actual income.
Nothing like the guaranteed deals in baseball and basketball.
There are also super easy ways to work around this if a guy transfers or is a complete bust.

It was a 3 year deal. He likely got paid for work he did during the time he was there. Probably made a good 400k.

It's that simple. We will pay you X amount per appearance, autograph, stool sample, etc. at the convenience of both parties with an escape clause based on availability and possibly marketability/interest regarding said service.
Just a guess
So if the provider deems no one wants your autograph, no more autograph sessions/NIL money for you

Yeah I doubt they gave him all that money up front. Probably was stipulated that he would receive payments periodically based on nil performance.

Unless there is a timeline and amount of appearances attached, then some money may have to be forfeited. Not saying there were those type of stipulations but if the person(s) putting up the money is smart, I would definitely want to protect my “investment”.
