Trip plan was London for Christmas; Madeira for New Years. Concerned about Omicron but figured we have been careful and are boosted. We knew what we were getting into and knew the risk.

We got our 2-day PCR Covid test as soon as we landed on December 22nd. Mrs Bok (no pics) tests positive. We got a negative rapid test the next morning so figured we must be okay.

Wife is good but I notice she has some sniffles on Christmas Day. We decide to bail on Madeira and rebooked tickets home for December 27th.

We need negative tests one day before. And she tests positive on the 26th.

An hour later we get phone call from UK test and trace. Told we have to self isolate for ten days in our hotel room. Hotel says stay in the room; no access to restaurant or gym; no housekeeping; room service will drop your tray in front of the door.

So . . . Here we are! Paying many pounds to eat room service and look out the window. At least we have a balcony!

The “good” news is that wife’s 10 day lockdown starts from the first test, so we may be able to leave on the 2nd. Unless I catch it - which I probably will sharing a hotel room - in which case it may be another week.

I still love to travel. If nothing else, we’ll get A+ immunity for the next trip.

That sucks. At least you have plenty time on your hands to plan the next trip.

I can’t imagine going to Europe or Australia/New Zealand in the future. I had no idea they were the police states they’ve shown themselves to be.

I have a trip to Italy planned in February. I hate to cancel but this is my nightmare.

I'm moving my Netherlands stopover in May to Greece. Not trying to get stuck in Europe but TBH winter, with the annual covid/flu spike is the most risky.

Hope you stay negative and they let you come home on the 2nd.

What is the kid’s name going to be?

I kid. Sorry that this happened to you. I hope you can make the best of it and you’ll have something to remember for the rest of your life. Please keep sharing your experiences. I think this helps people live and learn.

I’m not even looking in Europe’s direction until they go at least a full year without this kind of bullshite. Looking like I’ll never set foot there again?

I lived in Italy for 3.5 years and covered most of the continent. I can do without.

Do they have a 24 hour guard posted at your door?

Unles things change drastically, Italy is fine. I’m here now and they don’t have the follow up Covid test once you’re in the country. They do have an indoor mask/vaccine mandate and require a test to come into the country.

I was in London for 24 hours and never took the day 2 test but that sucks for the OP. I was free to move around even though we were supposed to quarantine until I received results of Day 2 test.

I'm more concerned about getting out than in.

- New CDC 5 day quarantine rec. Does this mean OP can fly back after 5 days instead of 10?

We can fly back as soon as wife tests negative per US law. Or have a medical certificate saying she’s recovered.

UK law says she needs two negative rapid tests to end self-isolation.

I got tested an hour ago and am still negative.

No guard on the door. Fine is 1,000 pounds for first offense breaking quarantine. We’re only allowed to leave to get tested.

Worst thing is wife watching nonstop NCIS on the Telly.

Why the hell would anyone voluntarily travel to these tyrannical police states in 2021 and spend money in their economies just so their politicians can continue to enable these police states?

How is that vaccine working for you? And the booster?

Congrats though on lining the pockets of big pharma and their politician stooges. That's all the "vaccine" is good for.

My cousin is in Scotland and tested positive with no symptoms. She couldn't fly home but after a second negative test they at least allowed her to leave the hotel.

Vaccine is working great for me. I’m locked in a hotel room with my Covid positive wife and I’m still negative. She had the sniffles for two days and is now fine. No fever. None of the serious symptoms non vaccinated people face.

And while it sucks to be locked in, we still got to fly across the pond to this “fascist” country. In a day or two, we’ll resume walking through Soho looking for new restaurants and pubs to try.

Keep your poli board crap off this board. I suspect you’re not an international traveler. If you were you’d know Britain is a safe, law abiding democracy. Fascist my dying arse!
