A bird hunting trip to Nicaragua was canceled due to political unrest, so I scheduled trip to Bolivia this May instead. But I really know very little about that country.

Flying into Santa Cruz. Anyone been? Any tips?

Thanks in advance

For anyone ballsy enough to go hunting in Nicaragua, a little vacation in Bolivia should be a breeze.

My wife spent a good part of her 20s living in South America. Should once took a train from Buenos Aires. Said it was the coldest she has ever been. Everything warm was in a checked bag and she just shivered for 14 hours. Otherwise she loved it.

In summary - I have not been and have no useful information.

Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid did. Didn’t work out.

Seriously though, sounds awesome.

I've crossed Argentina by train a few times.

The people are generally incredibly kind and welcoming. I was about to go to the restaurant car one night and the Lobos family adopted me and fed me. Some of the freshest fried chicken I've ever had, and good deserts.

But there is also extreme poverty and the possibility of getting robbed or mugged is definitely there. Keep your wits about and know where you are going. Rely on your guide and hotel for suggestions. From my undestanding Bolivia is nowhere near the standard of living of Argentina.

My only Bolivia experience is when I was in northern Chile and spent four days in the salt flats.
