Have a couple of international trips coming up the next few months and will be traveling with my current 5 1/2 month old. Longest flights are around 3.5 hours. Any tips, tricks, info, etc would be greatly appreciated!!

Have bottle and/or pacifier ready for takeoff/landing since they can't pressurize their ears

Figure out your car seat needs at destination - recommend something like a Doona or Uppababy that can be easily installed in anything. Or take public transit with stroller

Depending on where you're going and if you're connecting through a bigger airport - get a travel stroller. I love the Zoe. You can gate check it and it folds up very small. Lifesaver walking around airports and cities.
Bring the baby carrier

Also figure out sleeping arrangements - you don't want to be flying/carrying around a pack and play way too big and heavy

Get window seat

Bring reasonable amount of toys/snacks

Try to schedule flight times as best you can with their sleep/nap schedule but it's a crapshoot anyway

Flew to Singapore/Bali with a one year old a few years ago

Thanks!

Just got back from a trip to Disney. We have the doona and uppa baby with travel bags. We also have a carrier. The carrier was great as she napped in it during the trip while we were out and partially on the plane. All flights went ok minus the last one due to seat issues (seems like the flight attendants and gate agents make up rules for where they can sit on their own) and blowout. (Small commuter plane so that made it fun).

We flew infant in lap on the last trip but considering getting a seat for her on these trips. We booked the aisle and window hoping to have the middle left vacant. The last trip has is reconsidering just getting her a ticket and securing her own seat or upgrading to first class for more room.

I recommend this so the kid can sleep in their car seat in the paid seat.

Furthest I went with infant was Hawaii.

Once they can walk, unless you get lucky, it's a pain in the arse until I'm guessing they turn 4/5. They just have zero chill anymore.

Here's hoping my daughter will turn out more subdued than my son

There's longer domestic flights. You should change your OP honestly.

If you get them their own seat its a piece of cake. It not its nothing to worry about.

There's really not much you can do with a 5.5 month old to make it better but hope for the best.

Haha. True. It’s Mexico so pretty much domestic. I’m also ready for them to get these mask and test restrictions removed. Not only is it an inconvenience, It’s hard enough to keep her occupied with us playing with her without them on us. Taking them down to talk to her and dealing with the flight attendant reminders gets old quick!

I was about to say, I’m about to board a plane that’s 3 hours and only crossing one time zone.

Only thing I might be concerned about in this case is customs. Countries & airports are different in this respect with some super quick and some not.

Gate check your stroller. We have the Uppababy Vista and the Nuna Pipa RX car seat. They make a converter so that you can just put the car seat into the stroller. I wish we would've done that, rather than bringing the full stroller and the separate car seat.

It's 2022, if you don't have noise cancelling earphones yet then apparently noise doesn't bother you that much.

It’s ok on a flight to Mexico, but when I was on a flight from Philly to Doha, this chick with 3 babies just let them scream most of the time while she ignored it.

Noise cancelling headphones don’t do much for sleeping. Earplugs barely help a crying baby’s noise either.
