Growing up in New Orleans I heard ghost stories about the Grunch. I grew up In Gentilly and there was a story about the Grunch from New Orleans East off of “Grunch Road.” I think the Grunch was a half man/half goat creature from what I remember. Does anyone else from New Orleans remember this? Also what other Louisiana urban legends in different areas of Louisiana are there?

I forget what they call sleep paralysis, or The Old Hag, but the NOLA area has their own version of it.

There's also the LaLaurie Mansion.

All those kids at the haunted Caddo Parish school, George Washinton Carver High back in the day, who were abducted and molested by a mysterious janitor.

The Loup-Garou, a wolf-human who lived on human blood, from victims he found at night. The victims became werewolves and they would dance/party together under full moons. I believe!

Haunted houses throughout Louisiana.

I think the Grunch was a group of disenfranchised "different-looking" people who lived together in the N.O. East darkness.

Witches who died in Cajun country would return at night to haunt, torment and literally whip Cajuns as they slept. Some folks were driven insane.

Oh shite I hadn’t thought about that in a good while. Brings back fond memories that robbed me of my childhood.

For real though, as a very young fella I had the pleasure of accompanying my dad to the camp down deep in the basin. Quite the eclectic group, my father at a young age and his cohorts. All I remember is heavy drinking, loud poker, and even louder snoring. They’d all pass out one by one, right after telling me of the actual rougarou roaming about the area. All those many trees pushed down……rougarou did it they said.

Only one awake, a child at that, no chance of stirring any of those drunktards passed out dead. I didn’t much care for it at the time. When I turned 16 I fought the rougarou and gained its respect though.
