Is champagne over-doing it for qualifying for the World Cup? I'm not trying to make light of the accomplishment, but generally, champagne is usually reserved for winning a championship of some sort...it just seems weird to do for qualifying for the WC after a loss.

On one hand, it's fine to let them celebrate...on the other, I don't want them to become complacent.

How many have you? Why is that relevant?

I assume you disagree with me. That's fine. I asked the question in hopes to hear what other's think, so feel free to share.

My take:

No, champagne is not overdoing it for qualifying for the World Cup. An entire nation celebrates when their team qualifies for the WC. I think champagne is more than ok.

Is it a tradition to do this when qualifying? Did we do this after beating Mexico 2-0 in 2014? What about other times before that?

People will disagree, but I don’t think it’s a good sign that they did it directly after getting their asses kicked.

Qualifying is a really big deal and overshadows a loss on the road to Costa Rica, but it seems like they would have not been in the mood to celebrate just yet.
