I have a feeling DBU is about to make a comeback these next few weeks

Greg Brooks has been great for us so far and now we get to add Joe Foucha to the mix who was all over the field at arkansas. With Jay Ward shutting down everything in front of him at Nickel and adding Perkins to the edge mix. Let’s fricking Geaux!

I always love the obligatory downvote with zero explanation

Man if Maason didn't get hurt we could be looking at the best defense in the SEC. Still, this is looking like a really good D that's getting better each week.

Brooks looks like Chad Jones out there laying the boom. #3 looks good on him.

Tennessee is the only legit passing team they will face.

Thanks for posting a link to the highlights. I had not seen them.

I wish you were right, but you’re not. LSU is DBU because, for a generation, we’ve been able to line up with the best receiving corps in college football and handle them man to man. Cornerbacks like Patrick Peterson, Tredavious White, Mo Claiborne, Tyrann Mathieu, Donte Jackson, Kristian Fulton and Derrick Stingley were alway ready to blanket future NFL All-Stars, like Julio Jones.
If LSU faces a Julio Jones level receiver this season do you think we are going to blatantly man up against him? I don’t mean slip in a man coverage every now and then when they don’t expect it; I mean when Bama breaks their huddle everyone in the stadium knows that Tre White has their stud man to man and there is nothing they can do about it.
I’m going to add that coach did a good job stocking the secondary, and LSU is playing good team defense back there, mixing up their zones and tackling well. They look like a good secondary. But that’s not what DBU means.

Cornerbacks
So only corners make LSU DBU? Landry, Steltz, Taylor, Reid, Adams, Delpit, etc. would all like a word

Mathieu was not a lockdown corner, he was more of a nickel, which is why he plays safety in the NFL. Jackson wasn’t elite in coverage. Fulton got cooked in the National Championship, Stingley was embarrassed against Smith in 2019 and 2020. You have selective memory. Patrick Peterson, Mo Claiborne, and Tre White are the only guys that could do what you’re describing consistently.

The play of Ward and Burns is definitely up to par with DBU standards. Ward had one of the best DB performances in recent memory against MSU. He was a game breaker. Bernard-Coverse and Garner, given the coaching, are far superior to what LSUs seen the past two seasons even though they had more talent in 2020 and 2021. What gives? It’s because DBU is also about pride, physicality, instinct, and sound fundamentals. Yes, there is usually a first round DB back there, but that’s too narrow a view. LSU had multiple first round picks in the secondary in 2020 and the play was flat out embarrassing.

Add Greedy Williams to that list.

I would add Bama to that list even though they don't have the WR talent they have had in the past. On a side note, I didn't realize Jermaine Burton transferred from UGA to Bama. Not sure how I missed that.

Glad he's back, especially with Burns being out a few weeks

1000% correct. FSU is douche bag university.

I dont think of DBU as corners only. I think of guys like Laron Landry, Eric Reid, Jamal Adams, Grant Delpit, as well.
Jay Ward is absolutely doing enough to be in a similar conversation.

Yeah, legit might be the wrong word. Bama doesn’t look like they have the last several years even with still having Young at QB. LSU averages more passing yards a game than Bama does. Their RB is the 2nd leading receiver for them.
